Forex occasionally presents a holiday index, where you can see how prices in different countries compare with those in Sweden. Sweden has "100" and other countries get a number that is relative to this. The cheapest on the list in 2014 is actually ... the Philippines!
Here are the cheapest travel destinations
Cheap destinations can be found in Asia and Eastern Europe. If you want to see money slip through your fingers, travel to Monaco (151), Norway (130) or Switzerland (122).

A win-win situation! If it weren't for the long flight with changes, I'd be travelling there right now.
We have already discovered Poland, Latvia and Estonia - shorter journey if you say so;-)

How much does it cost to fly to the Philippines (hard to spell)? It depends of course on ... but approximately what did you pay? It must also be added to the cost of what it costs to holiday in a country. 🙂
Oh how did you fly and how long did it take? Maybe you've written about it in a post already, but I've missed it in that case 🙂.

I missed Vietnam. It was not on the Forex list at all. And cost camps for us in Vietnam are also very good. Then of course it depends on whether you are in the more touristy places in these countries or not. So often it can be even cheaper. In Thailand, for example, Phuket and Krabi have higher costs than less developed tourist resorts.
Nice to see the list anyway!

I agree with Ditte! It's true in some places, but is completely different in other places in the same country. It depends on whether the tourists have found their way there or not. The difference can be as big as being 50% cheaper outside of touristy areas!
The index gives at least a hint!

BP, Eastern Europe is a great holiday destination in that way! But this time of year, it will be a little cooler city holidays in that case...?
Alexandra, of course it matters for the overall price! We travelled over Christmas and New Year when it is by far the most expensive time to travel. We paid about 7000 SEK per person for the plane ticket. But if you can travel any other time of the year, it is certainly cheaper. We flew quite inconveniently, via Amsterdam and then China. Some flights go via Kuala Lumpur or similar instead.
Anita and Anders, we are in the same situation and hope for the best... haha. Hope your trip home went well! Many thanks for last time, we really had a great day in Manila!
Ditte, even Cambodia and Laos were missing. Guess they should be cheap countries to travel in. And certainly there is a difference, Boracay, for example, was significantly more expensive than Mindoro where we were first.
Veiken, can only agree. Prices can vary a lot. But the index, as I said, gives a little hint anyway.
