We don't usually do much shopping when travelling - space in our backpack or motorhome is limited. But something can be fun to bring home. For us it's often a piece of clothing or jewellery, things we use. The exception is Ukraine, where we have travelled almost exclusively for shopping! There, we've had to buy an extra bag on the way home ...

10 places to shop while travelling
Here are 10 fun places to shop, in no particular order. What's your favourite thing to do on holiday and where?
1. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur is a modern city filled with air-conditioned walkways and malls. In the Pavilion, Lot10 and Petrona Towers you'll find plenty of clothes shops.
2nd Italy
The best shopping in Italy we have not found in Milan, but in all the small towns and villages that we pass on the road with the motorhome. Above all, you can find such beautiful shoes in Italy!
3. The market in Gdansk, Poland
Every year in August it is market in Gdansk. It's nice to just wander around, whether you want to shop for a bag or just munch on chocolate-dipped fruit skewers.
4. Hoi An, Vietnam
Hi An attracts many backpackers, partly because sewing clothes is cheap here. The tailors (all women) are friendly, and you can even make shoes!
5. Kiev, Ukraine
Unfortunately, the situation in Ukraine is very unstable at the moment as everyone knows, but normally we like to shopping in Ukraine. Kiev is our favourite city for shopping: glitter, fur, heels and design.
6. Reykjavik, Iceland
Icelanders know how to combine native materials (wool, horse hair, lava) with modern design. I Reykjavik you'll also find plenty of stylish outdoor clothing here.
7. Budapest, Hungary
In Eastern Europe there are not only chains, but also more fun boutiques. When you shopping in Budapest you will also find delicacies such as wine, salami and foie gras.
8. Marrakech, Morocco
The market in Marrakech is a myriad of ceramic bowls, rugs, baskets, boxes, mirrors, slippers, jewellery, clothes, shoes, mobile phones and watches.
9. Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
I Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur the noise of the vendors' shouts is mixed with the smells of the street kitchens. Here you can find cheap clothes, handbags, jewellery and watches. Don't forget to haggle!
10. Venice in Italy
Walking through the shops in Venice is an experience, even if you don't want to take home a mask or colourful glass lamp. It can also be a piece of jewellery or a hat ...

I do very little shopping on a holiday. Have not really understood the point and if I shop, it is something that I really want or like. But with one exception; the years we lived in China, Beijing. here I bought everything, just everything . And will not have to buy anything but underwear and swimwear in my lifetime. Not really. Here I sewed lots of silk dresses, linen dresses, curtains, bedding etc., cashmere coats/jackets. And I bought bags, jewellery, jackets, sweaters, sportswear, shoes, shirts and not to mention all the different models of jeans. Much bought in local shops and some in markets. If you live in Beijing, you get good quality and good service wherever you are a customer, even in markets. You are recognised! and have friends who go along and introduce you. A process in itself, but well worth it. And most of what we buy here at home is "made in China".

Ditte, understand that there were certainly good prices, and if you also know how to get good stuff, it's great! We probably also buy mostly things we use, ie clothes and jewellery, or maybe wine or so.

We don't do much shopping either. Clothes, food and drink usually go home with us. Favourite places: Riga, Sopot and Spain.

We're also not much for shopping on holiday (nor at home for that matter) but we do buy a fridge magnet for every new place we visit! 😀

BP, In Riga there was a rather nice market I think...
Alexandra, nice to have as a memory, especially when you are a bit consistent like that!
🙂
ActiveDays, can only agree... things should only be bought if they are going to be used...

I had missed that you have already been to Marrakesh. Great, then you can provide tips to avoid the worst traps on a Norwegian travel blogger's trip. However, it is a rather controlled trip without much time, but hopefully there will be some.
