The other night we woke up to find the bilge pump running. When water enters the hull, it starts automatically and pumps the water out through a pipe. However, the last splash of water flows back through the pipe because the slope is quite strong, and so the pump starts again ...
The bilge pump
So in order for the pump to stop, you have to pour out the very last bit yourself. There are only small amounts of water, but we are wondering where the water comes from. Hopefully we can solve it all when we take the boat up this summer.
Much more dramatic story
The next day we read about a significantly more dramatic case of water in boat. A Swedish couple, aboard a sailboat, were travelling from Florida to Bermuda when their boat started taking in water at a rate higher than they could pump out. The wind was strong and the waves were high. In very dramatic circumstances, they were rescued by a cargo ship, leaving the sinking sailboat to its fate.
Huh, just saying. I am impressed by all the brave people who dare to sail on the big oceans. Personally, I think it's quite nice to lie here in the harbour and rock ...

When problems arise, it can be comforting to compare with others in even worse situations.

I would never go to sea in a sailboat or motorboat. I am far too cowardly for that. Two elements I have incredible respect for (= am terrified of) - water and fire.
I hope you get your boat in order. But you can at least jump up on the bridge if something serious should happen.

Ohhh how scary, it's nice and dry under your feet, probably you will solve it after the "lift" 😉.

Hope it works out in the lift!
We received a report from our site supervisors yesterday:
The neighbour below us had a "roof drop"!
One of our radiators was leaking water!
Everything is now fixed and goes on insurance!
So nice to not have a house. We can sit in the motorhome and enjoy while things are fixed at home!

Good that you are in harbour, but with a boat you don't really know where the leak is. It is good that the boat is going up soon so you may be able to find the leak. But hope that you already now get an end to the paint job.
Going out on the high seas on a sailboat is not for me. I'm far too anxious. But sailing in the Stockholm and Åland archipelago is perfect.

When you read what happened to Niklas and Karin, it's one of the reasons why I don't like deep water, as well as flying.
No thanks I know the motorhome, with 4 wheels on the road 🙂 .
Luckily you are on a jetty. Hope they find the fault/leak when you take it up for repair.

BP, I am also too cowardly. But I am impressed by people who dare!
Lennart, it's nice when it works out so smoothly!
Maggan and Ingemar, cars are not always completely harmless either, but you feel less exposed, of course.
Jennifer, will check of course!
Scottish moments, thank you thank you, I usually check out your blog now.

Hope you get the leak sorted, it may be possible to get an "emergency" appointment if it needs to be addressed.
Poor people who lost their boat but lucky they survived.
I have a friend who is leaving in June as a solo sailor to the West Indies!
Have a nice weekend
Hugs

Wow, what a fate to get so much water in the middle of the sea. I am impressed by those who dare to go out like that...I myself am excessively afraid of boats for some reason. I would never think of going out on a Finnish boat or cruise, my nerves are not up to it. Have tested once and was awake for 2 days, standing up on deck during the nights.

Ulla & Torgny says:
I also read about their fate, not funny. Impressed by people who go out on the big oceans. Nowadays we stay on land, feels like you have a bit more control.......hope you find the leak......
Have a nice weekend!

JoY, hope your friend has a fantastic and (reasonably) exciting sailing trip!
Ulla & Torgny, thank you!
Criss-cross, not too far from land here...
😉
Agneta, boat trips are not so pleasant if you feel that way...
