Sahara - luxury camping and camels in the desert

Wow, what a trip to the desert we have experienced! We travelled from Zagora straight into the Sahara, not far from the border with Algeria. Hour after hour through three types of desert: sand, rock and what is neither one nor the other, but perhaps the bottom of a dry lake. Sometimes a few acacia trees, a bunch of dromedaries on a hike or a few French tourists on a motorbike or on foot.

Erg Chigaga luxury camp

Finally, we arrived at the luxurious Erg Chigaga camp in the middle of the dunes. For example, our large tent had both a water toilet and a shower!

So we're talking about huge tents with beds, toilets and showers. And then there was a restaurant tent, where food and wine were served at set tables. Yes, in the middle of the Sahara! A trip like this is really an adventure with a luxury edge and a trip you won't forget.

On dromedaries in the Sahara

Steady in the saddle, and well off the ground, we rode through the desert while the dromedaries made long shadows in the sand. Just before the sun was about to set, we had to climb the crest of a sand dune, and from there we saw how the sun was swallowed by the horizon. And of course, dinner, some rosé wine and Arabic music by a crackling fire in the evening. This tour, organised by Sahara Experience, we will not forget!

New day and tour by jeep

The next day we packed ourselves into the jeeps and continued the tour through the desert. Then we went on and on. Every now and then we stopped to photograph the stunning scenery, while doing our best to protect ourselves from the swirling sand.

From the Sahara to Marrakech

Finally, it was time to leave the camp in the Sahara and head back across the desert in our jeeps, with the Sahara Experience drivers. We stopped to look at fossils... and to take photos, of course!

Redo för avfärd!
Ready for departure!

One of the first stops was in a place where there are plenty of fossils. You didn't have to look, so to speak, but they were everywhere. At one time there must have been both water and life right here. Now it's just desert.

Then it was time to continue the tour again, this time travelling from the Sahara to Marrakech. The journey was long and we made various stops along the way. It was everything from refuelling to having lunch or looking at a view. In fact, we had a really good time in the cars. We had a lot to talk about and there was a lot to talk about. how a lot of things to photograph.

Hotel Irocha in Tisselday

We stayed one night at the hotel Irocha in the village of Tisselday. We can really recommend this hotel if you ever happen to pass by.

The hotel is located with fantastic views of the valley below and is so personally cosy, so that it almost feels like you are visiting someone's grandmother. We were served both good dinner and excellent breakfast. There would be WiFi too, but unfortunately it did not work when we were there ...

After a night in Irocha, we continued back to Marrakech. The ride over the Atlas Mountains is winding and goes along one steep cliff after another - and as you can see from Peter's clothes, it suddenly got a lot colder... All in all, a great adventure!
