A new edition of Discover Europe by Car, from Motormännen, has recently been published. Are you travelling by car or motorhome in Europe this summer? Then it might be worth packing this! Here you will find lots of valuable information for long and short road trips. We will keep it in the door of the motorhome, easily accessible from the passenger seat.
Information and tips in "Discover Europe by Car".
"Discovering Europe by car" has been part of the Motormännens book range since the 1940s, but has been renamed and updated several times. The new version provides information on everything you might need on European roads.
This includes suggestions for good and beautiful roads, as well as tips on bridges and ferries. You'll also find tips on what to pack in the car, what to think about when it comes to insurance, information on customs regulations, valuable facts about travelling with animals and much more. A book that feels almost indispensable on the road trip!
A chapter on each country
The book has a separate chapter for each country, which is very useful. Here you will find important addresses and telephone numbers and specific information on camping rules, traffic rules, road tolls and other things that are good to know about the country you are interested in.
It also provides information on the names of petrol, diesel and LPG in different languages. This is very good information, we can say. We have often driven into petrol stations abroad, and then stood there scratching our heads because we didn't understand what was written on the various pumps ...
The book is relatively small and has soft covers - easy to store in the car! If you would like to order a copy, it is available from, among others Motorists, but you can also find it at Adlibris and other bookshops. In any case, we will have this with us on the trip!

We have that book, although it is at least 20 years old. In other words, it's time to renew it.

Thanks for the great tips! I think the book can be useful even if you are a flight tourist or take the train. Useful tips are always needed.

Maybe we should have had it last summer when we were on holiday. We were pretty clueless beforehand and found out things about each country when we got there. For example, we did not know that you needed to buy a sticker for the car to drive on the motorways in Switzerland and the Czech Republic (we did not even know what currency they have in the Czech Republic haha) but we noticed that when we got to the border so it worked out. We probably did not know much at all actually when we set off from little Märsta.... but we came home anyway haha. But okay... it may not be so bad to be a little prepared either!

BP, this kind of information tends to get out of date...
Ditte, sure, although a lot of it is actually about traffic rules and roads etc.
Alexandra, haha, yes, it usually always works out in some way anyway! But a book like this probably makes it easier!
