The huge cruise ship ms Eurodam, from the shipping company Holland America Line, has just visited Stockholm during one of its cruises. Last night we were invited on board for a tour of the ship, as well as for dinner and entertainment. We have never been on a real cruise, except for Finland and Åland cruises then, so it was really exciting to see what a ship like this looks like!

Holland America Line
The shipping company Holland America Line has been around since 1873. When the company started, it shipped mainly European emigrants to a new life in the promised land on the other side of the Atlantic.
Today, they specialise in holiday cruises - ranging from one-day mini-vacations to 100+ day round-the-world cruises. The company operates 15 cruise ships and offers more than 500 cruises each year to 415 ports in 98 countries on all seven continents.
Cruises
With Holland America Line you can cruise in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean. There are also several longer and interesting routes around the world, such as around Africa, to Indonesia and back or Copenhagen-Iceland-Greenland-USA.
Life on board MS Eurodam
Ms Eurodam is 285 metres long and carries about 2100 passengers - many of whom live in the veranda cabins around the ship. On board the cruise ships, there are 11 floors with everything from gyms and spas to restaurants and entertainment. There is also a cinema and a library where you can read or work on your computer.
Restaurants
The restaurants range from simple grill bars to exclusive fine dining. The company works with chefs who run Michelin-starred restaurants to improve the quality of the food.
We had dinner at the Asian restaurant Tamarind and I (Helena) started with a shrimp tempura. For the main course we both ordered fish and vegetables in a rice paper package - very good!
Pleasure and entertainment
On board Ms Eurodam there is a huge lounge with a large stage where shows are performed five nights a week. After dinner we were treated to a show by B.B. King's blues club - a great and uplifting end to the evening! Some cruises feature the popular "Dancing with the Stars" event - and if you want, you can buy special packages for weddings or honeymoons.
There is also a really big casino. There are five Black Jack tables and 126 one-armed bandits, casinos and other slot machines.
Gym and spa
The gym on board the MS Eurodam is so large that we only managed to capture a small corner of it in the photo. There is also a wide range of different treatments.
If you want (and weather permitting!) you can also enjoy all the small and large pools on deck. There are also small private rooms where you can lie down and sip champagne. In other words, there's not much to miss on board the MS Eurodam, with Holland America Line.
Join us for a small tour in pictures of one of the company's largest ships: ms Eurodam!

The prejudices about cruise ships, I understand that they exist. But after hearing friends talk about the concept, I became more and more eager to try it myself, which meant that Tobias and I ran (one of our) honeymoons on a cruise in the Caribbean. It was fantastic!

Talk about a culture clash - but both houseboats and Finland cruises.
It is cool, but I would probably still get lappskuka or caustrophobia. But an evening visit as you did - yes, thank you!

Very nice! We like cruises and have done some in the Mediterranean in a week and a long one starting from Amsterdam and up to the North Cape. Fantastic to see the Norwegian fjords.
The cruise concept is comfortable and everything is on board plus some more. Just on the cruise in Norway we came across a nice balcony cabin at a great price, which was 1/3 of what we would have paid to take the Norwegian "Hurtigruten".
A slightly longer cruise is well worth trying. And we will do it again.

How nice that you brought us on board. Yes, they certainly haven't skimped on luxury. I would love to go on a cruise, but my husband refuses. Maybe one day I'll go by myself!

Both my sister and my grandchildren have been on cruises in the Caribbean. They sound so tempting to go on a cruise, but to just be on a big boat...... well it's probably nothing for me, I'm probably a land crab, who prefers the motorhome, it feels safer 🙂 .

It was not a bad ship!

Aniika, great to have a Caribbean cruise as a honeymoon! But what, have you had more than one honeymoon...?
BP, hehe, boats can look a bit different...
😉
Ditte, it seems cosy and nice with a cruise! Going up to the North Cape by water sounds cool! I have been to the North Cape too, but went there by train and minibus.
Ama de casa, slightly bigger than ours if you say...
😉
Lena in Wales, a bit boring when you don't want the same, but sometime it might be suitable to go on your own too!
Maggan and Ingemar, on such a big boat from a good shipping company I feel safe! In Asia, where the boats sometimes look a little shaky, I can feel more insecure...
Young lady, it was easy to get lost, so to speak...
😉

oh my goodness what a boat...or boat and boat, it's a whole city!
Nice to see it inside here with you, I myself am not a cruise person ... have a certain fear of being out on the open water in a large ship so we never go on a cruise of any kind to the man's sadness.
