We love travelling - both with and without a motorhome. But as you know, we have a particular fondness for motorhome holidays. So why? Why is travelling by motorhome so good? Here are ten reasons to choose a motorhome, as we see it.
10 reasons to travel by motorhome
- You can pack anything you want - Compared to a backpack or suitcase, the motorhome is huge. There's no problem packing a whole pile of books or filling the cupboards with toys. Not sure which dresses to choose? Take them all!
- You have a sleeping place with you I - Do you feel tired all of a sudden while driving? Then just pull into a rest stop or petrol station and sleep for an hour. The bed is made!
- You have a sleeping place with you II - When you're travelling around, it's a hassle to plan hotel stays. So it's good to have your bed with you! If you can't find a campsite or caravan site, you can always spend the night in a car park or rest area.
- You can cook the food yourself - Restaurants are nice, but they can be expensive when you have to eat out three times a day. When you have your own kitchen, you can browse the local supermarkets and cook your own dinner. You don't have to watch any breakfast times either ...
- You have a toilet in your car - Sometimes you get stuck in crazy traffic jams. I don't know what people do in regular cars, but when you have a campervan, you just ... go to the toilet.
- You can change direction - Was the weather bad on the west coast? Or did you get a tip about a cosy village that isn't on the designated route? Yes, but go the other way round! With a motorhome, you can change the direction of your journey whenever you want.
- You pack up quickly - As a motorhome traveller, you don't need awnings, flower boxes or fences. When you want to leave, simply pack up your outdoor furniture, roll up your footsteps and go!
- You drive as fast as other cars - A motorhome has no trailer to take into account, and therefore no special speed limits. So you can travel as fast as anyone else on the road.
- It is easy to visit friends - With the campervan, you can easily visit friends who live some distance away and stay the night, without them having to provide a place to sleep. Perfect for the midsummer party when 10 couples get together in the same small, cramped cottage!
- You can use your motorhome all year round - Some motorhomes are better equipped for winter use than others, but either way the season is long. The motorhome can be used for skiing trips, Easter celebrations, summer European trips and short autumn weekends.

BP says:
You are right in everything you write. A motorhome equals freedom, plain and simple. If you want to be more "mobile", you can also take bicycles with you. Do you need a driving licence or a lorry licence?

Cat's Considerations says:
Of course, there are many good things about motorhomes. That is what is wonderful that we are many travellers who look around the world in different ways. For myself, the motorhome has not become my thing, which is why we are now selling the motorhome (the advert is out) and will invest in two other projects, one is the farm and the other will be the house in the Philippines. However, I like to read about your hardships, whether they are with the motorhome or now your exciting project on the water.
Ps. I will whistle if I pass you this weekend when I go to Stockholm and always stroll in your neighbourhood and sometimes eat a pizza at Ciao Ciao.

Lennart, yes I think there are more benefits to be found!
BP, I assume you mean a B licence? On most motorhomes (ours, for example), a standard B licence is required. However, there are some exceptions.
Katta, of course you should choose the style or project that you feel suits you! And it's stupid to just have a motorhome standing... Feel free to get in touch or stop by if you're passing by! If we are home, it would be fun to say hello!
🙂
Rolle and Carina, wonderful! Wishing many more great seasons!

The benefits are huge, for sure. And I think there may be even more.... They become very apparent when you see a list.
We are not motorhome owners but have tried New Zealand and it was very positive. We will probably try again but maybe here at home. We like the idea!

There are certainly advantages, although motorhomes have never been my "thing".

Ditte, New Zealand was the place where we tried motorhoming for the first time too! NZ is a very motorhome friendly country.
Of course, Steve, it doesn't have to suit everyone, or be the best option for everyone.
Frankie & Co, lovely! Wishing you a nice motorhome weekend!

True. You have everything you need with you. "Away good but motorhome best" says a small painting we got once...
Soon we will be rolling out on a 5 week holiday 🙂 .

Ninni, Henrik and the Hjulius motorhome says:
Agree, so right in all points. Had a boat before and was a lot out on the lake and rocking around but the season is so much longer with a motorhome and you don't get "blown in" or stuck in the fog, or have to go out and move place because the wind changes in the middle of the night. So much nicer (I think).

Across the board, five weeks of holiday! We're "keeping up"
🙂
Ninni, Henrik & Hjulius, boats are great, but in Sweden the season is really limited... much longer season with a motorhome!
