Vagabond's Travel Barometer 2014 has now been published. It can be noted that travelling abroad continues to increase - and mainly to the Mediterranean. Among the countries in the top 10 this year, there is not a single country outside Europe.
USA and Thailand have slipped down
In previous years, both the USA and Thailand were on the top list, but these countries have now slipped to 11th and 12th place respectively. Estonia increases in popularity while Poland decreases. We find this inexplicable as Poland is a cheap and beautiful destination that is easy to travel to, whether you are travelling by plane, car or campervan. Please read our travel tips for Poland.

Lena in Wales, UK is in 5th place... but maybe it's more about London...?

I would love to go to Wales! Never been there.
Otherwise, I can understand why Thailand is declining, too much has been going on there for a long time, too bad. And USA, have lived there, travelled around in many states, but nothing I go back to like that. Just doesn't interest me and no history either. But nice like that in general, sure. Hard to understand that Poland is lagging behind, but perhaps it is the boring boats from Nynäshamn that are not so fun that can be a reason. To Estonia there are good boats with good connections from Stockholm. Also good cabins and good food on board. Perhaps something for Nynäsbtarna to take after, because there are many who want to take a boat from Stockholm or its vicinity.

Interesting statistics for our Swedish municipalities that have often overlooked the importance of motorhome parking spaces that spend a good amount of money on a daily basis!

I don't understand about Poland either. The only explanation I can think of is perhaps that Polferries is not the world's most fun shipping company - if you want to take the car with you to Poland, that is. Their boats are no direct tourist ferries if you say so.

I think Spain is at the top because everyone wants to visit me.

Ditte, you definitely have a point about the ferries! They are not very fun. It could certainly attract more people if the ferry journey was a better experience! But then, of course, the price would skyrocket too...
Lena & Jan, tourism really does bring in money, so it's a source of income I find it hard to understand why anyone would want to miss out!
BP, both you and Ditte wrote about this and I am prepared to agree. I think the ferries are ok, but it's more of a transport than the journey itself is particularly pleasant... and it could be done better!
Ama de casa, it has to be!

Surprised to read that Thailand is declining. Here we have friends and acquaintances with houses in Thailand and others who like to travel anyway without a house. But perhaps the unrest there has contributed to fewer trips there overall.

No M, there are still a lot of people who go there, even though it has decreased. Right now I can imagine that the unrest is having an impact.
