Champagne and strawberries in first class on a desert island in the Maldives? No, probably not if you're a Swedish millionaire. This summer, newly rich Swedes are flying economy class to Spain... and staying away for a week.
Spain is most popular
The Postcode Lottery has conducted a survey of 100 of its millionaire winners to find out how they plan to holiday this summer. The survey shows that their plans are far from extravagant.
Instead, the Swedish favourite Spain is the most popular destination among the new millionaires, with 22% travelling to Spain and 15% staying in Sweden. Other popular holiday destinations are Greece and the USA.
Economy class
The majority fly economy class and only six per cent treat themselves to a first class ticket. The newly rich Swedes, on the other hand, like to stay in a four-star hotel, and one in five goes all out and stays in a five-star hotel. The most common shopping finds are wine and beer, followed by clothes, souvenirs, watches and jewellery. More than half are staying for just one week and a quarter are staying for two weeks. Only nine per cent plan to be away for four weeks or more.
How would you holiday if you won a million?
In other words, it doesn't seem much more exciting to be a millionaire. Lucky for those of us who haven't won the Postcode Lottery, in other words. How would you holiday if you won a million or more?
Johanna in Skåne says:
The children saw a lottery ticket where you could win 10 million and thought we should buy one. I asked what they would like to do if they won and Tage replied that he would invite the whole class to Legoland 🙂 Sten would buy licences for a minecraft server. They hardly need 10 million for those things... It can be good to think about what you want and then realise that it may be possible to get it with the conditions you have today. Sven said that a diving trip to Vancouver Island would be high on the list. I agree with him. We would then invite a number of relatives or similar who would be with the children while we dive. Economy class, but preferably a long trip.

Johanna in Skåne, haha that's interesting! Yes, it is probably wise to think about what it is you want to do. For myself, I would definitely travel more and longer, but not necessarily so luxurious. You can of course not do what you want, but as a Swede you still have a lot of opportunities, at least if you are prepared to fight a little for it!
BP, yes, it's nice to see that you have it like a millionaire... haha.

If I had the opportunity, I would make sure that the husband and I got a whole month off in the summer and we would travel around Greece or Sweden. No luxury hotels but good food, good wine and swimming and excursions.

Anna in Qatar says:
Shit, people are boring. Come on or... At least 1.5 weeks they can sacrifice for a little holiday.
If I had won a million, I would have gone to LAS Vegas. If you are lucky in gambling, you have to continue on that line.

Ditte says:
Yes, I have thought about what I would really like to see. Nowadays, the sun and bathing are no longer an option for me. Yes, I can swim...
But Antarctica with Easter Island and the Galapagos are on my list.
And I would love to invite my whole family.
Otherwise, I don't know. I think I can visit South Africa without winning, I would love to go there. Then there are many undiscovered places, but if I won I would probably find them.

Annika says:
If I won a lot of money, I would travel far and be gone for a long time. Australia and New Zealand, the South Sea!
Then I also have a desire to cruise to Antarctica! AND in Alaska.
HIHI fun to speculate on this. I wish, I wish!!!
Hugs!

Would love to travel around the USA for a couple of months and see everything from north to south and drive from east to west coast...
Maybe you could do without winning the lottery when the kids have stopped being so defiant 😀.

Rolle and Carina, Peter also wants summer all year round! I want more summer, but I can imagine some winter too...
😉
Anita, we probably think a bit like you. Do not need luxury hotels, but preferably longer holidays, good food, wine, some experiences ...
🙂
Anna in Qatar, yes, a little lightly restrained one might say... typically Swedish perhaps... haha.
Ditte, Antarctica, Easter Island and Galapagos... these are very special destinations that seem cool, but that you might need to win some money to visit! So why not take advantage of winning a million or two?
😉
Annika, we did visit a cruise ship recently. Their long distance cruises seemed nice in many ways... if you had a slightly different budget....
😉
Kattas Considerations, I have to say that I was a bit surprised that people don't dare to do a bit more, when they have the finances!
FixarFarsan, a lot of travel dreams can actually be realised without winning millions! If not right away, then maybe at least at some point in your life!

Exciting reading, I didn't think so! So many times I have thought about that 🙂 I would like to think that it would be a long round-the-world trip with only a backpack and an open mind. But I am far too home-loving so I would probably holiday at home on the farm! 🙂
God how good you are and work on the boat! Hats off and many hugs!

Marie, right?!

Annelie, the important thing is that you feel what you want. Personally, I think that the trip around the world sounds quite appealing.
