Motormännen has carried out its annual evaluation of the country's rest areas. 270 of Sweden's 350 or so rest areas have been assessed by Motormännens vägombud, in terms of design, parking facilities, safety, seating, toilets, play equipment, walking paths, lighting, signage and cleaning.
Road safety
Many road accidents are caused by drivers being too tired, so rest areas play an important role in road safety. "Rest areas are popular with motorists, and they play an important role in longer journeys, especially in the summer.
It is necessary to be able to easily stop along the road and take a break. If rest areas are inviting, more people will stop, safety will increase and the experience will be even more pleasant", says Erik Kjellin, Road Safety Officer at Motormännen.
Scored test method
The test method was developed by Belgium's Euro-Test and can score a maximum of 890 points. The countries with the best rest areas are Germany, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. Rest areas in Belgium, Spain and the Czech Republic are in poorer condition. Compared to the rest of Europe, Sweden's rest areas are of a good standard, with the best rest area being Vojmån in Västerbotten County (890 points). Congratulations to all tired drivers who want to rest in Västerbotten! Those of you who get tired elsewhere will find nice rest areas here.

Nice with good suggestions for rest areas. Breaks are always needed during a trip and if they are also good, it makes travelling easier.
But, I don't know if I think Stora Wäsby is so special, other than the fact that McDonald's is there...But maybe the Stockholm area doesn't have much else to offer.

Ditte, Stora Wäsby didn't score very high... I guess there isn't much to compete with in the Stockholm area?

Hmm... Maybe I shouldn't have moved from Västerbotten after all?
