Now we are almost done with the renovation of the houseboat and the launching into the water is fast approaching. One last step, which we wanted to do before launching, is to test the stability of the houseboat. We simply have to do a stability test on the boat!
About our houseboat
The houseboat was originally built as a passenger sloop, presumably with the capacity to carry quite a few passengers. But then it became a houseboat, with a much larger living area built on top of the hull. And now, in the latest remodelling, we have made the superstructure slightly higher and also wider. So what does that mean for stability?
To be moored at a jetty
The boat will not go out on the sea, but will be moored at a relatively sheltered jetty. Moreover, there will hardly ever be more than a maximum of 10 people on board at the same time. But still, we want to know that it stays on the right keel even in a storm ...
Stability test company
We have hired a company called Saltech, which the marina recommended we contact. This morning they came with measuring equipment (at the arrow) to scan the boat. They get lots of measurement points that are put into a computer programme, which is then used to calculate the stability.
The next step, which takes place when the boat is in the water, is for us to shift weights on deck, while the company calculates the boat's inclination. Finally, we will receive a report describing the stability, along with any suggestions for action.

Sounds really wise! Because if the boat is too high and heavy in relation to everything else, it's not good.
I hope that your beautifully renovated boat gets the highest rating and the best values.

Sorry Helena, but this sparked my (strange) imagination: I mean, why spend money on such a simple test! Personally, I would have invited a lot of people and placed them all over the boat. Asked them to bring drinks (for additional weight and thus redistribution of weight later in the evening).
No just kidding as you understand;-)

I understand that you are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel........ lovely now that autumn is starting to set in and you are leaving old Svedala.
It will be so nice, it's a shame to leave it to its fate this winter now that you intend to go south.....
Hugs!

Ditte, yes, it feels good to check properly... We don't think it should be too heavy, but then it should be right in the water with the weight properly distributed. We thought about that when we built it, but it's hard to know for sure. Best to check with professionals ...
BP, hehe, yes, it would probably work to test the rocking in that way... but then the company has to measure the slope to programme it... sooo, we go with our idea anyway
😉
Ulla & Torgny, it will be a while before we get away so we have to live in it for a while. Then we have to find good people to rent it out to!

It is not without reason that I think the houseboat looks narrow in the picture, maybe because the eye is comparing with the height.
