Last night we had the prospective tenants, i.e. my colleague and her partner, over for dinner. We had a very nice evening, and of course, we had very much practical to deal with.
Many details to discuss
I think we went through exactly all in the boat. There is a lot to think about, we realise. First, we have to agree on what to leave behind and what they want us to remove: crockery? toaster? carbonating machine? vacuum cleaner? TV screens? mattresses?
Explain how everything works
Then we have to explain how everything works: Nibe boiler, underfloor heating, air source heat pump, sewage pump, stove... Not to mention Peter's different coloured lights!
I've written a manual that is 23 pages so far, but I now realise that it needs to be expanded ... Yes, and then of course you have to write contracts and all sorts of other things. Have you ever rented out your home, or have you rented from someone else? What are your experiences?
Ditte says:
Understand that it is a huge job to put together both a contract and a manual.
I have never rented anything, but lent it out and then it was still 8 sheets. And that was for two weeks....
Good luck and you'll be fine when everything is ready and you're on your way. Otherwise, there is the telephone ....

Hi there! No, we have not rented out our home at any time, and now we live ourselves on rent - it is so practical if you are lazy like us 😉 I can imagine that it is a little more to think about and know some special things in a houseboat that may not (what do I know by the way) be just like a regular house. Cosier in any case.

Ditte, it was nice to hear about your 8 pages! Now my 23 pages don't feel so hysterical anymore!
😉
Rolle and Carina, it will be fine. Thank you very much!
🙂
Ninni, yes, it's a bit extra ... at least if you compare with an apartment. Especially with the boiler, sewage pump and so on, and then of course you have to keep an eye on how it lies in the water and so on... haha.

Good for you for being so structured! A manual was probably not a bad idea. I mean, in an apartment you also need instructions, but there are probably many more in a houseboat.
Never rented out myself, but ended up in apartments in different countries rented out by private individuals. It varied from occasional written instructions to just verbal ones.

BP, it feels like it's almost necessary to have some kind of manual here - there are a lot of machines and technical gadgets and lights to be operated... And then it's important to make it all understandable....

Is there perhaps a "Template" on the Consumer Agency's website or the "Mäklarförbund"!? It was quick to find tenants, congratulations!

It was smart ... to rent out to someone you know 🙂 Then there is someone who takes care of your home while you are away. 🙂

No I haven't. Thought about it for a brief second before Peru but realised it was too much work for the little money we would save....

Deciree, it feels very good that it will be someone we know!
Lena & Jan, thanks for the tips! There are probably a lot of templates and stuff online. We found a template for a contract on bostaddirekt.se.
Katarina, I guess it depends on how long it is... because it's a lot of work too!

It will be fun to follow you on your journey! I have rented out my apartment and my partner and I have settled in an old motorhome that we have renovated. Many people think it's crazy, but we're doing this to save money. We are saving for a house, some will be used for travelling as well of course. Will be Thailand for two months next year, then we'll see what else we come up with. I was lucky and got my daughter's friend and family as tenants. I found a contract online that I printed out, then added a few points. I rented out my apartment furnished because I don't have room to store all the furniture somewhere, although the nice thing was that they would not use my furniture but take it to a storage room. I avoided that job 🙂 I took several photos of the apartment with all the furniture, etc. so that there is pictorial evidence of what it looked like when they moved in. Then there was a little hassle with cancelling everything or transferring it to the new tenants. Good luck with the trip and all the planning for it!

Christa, thank you so much for your informative comment! It's great that you dare to think a little differently, to achieve what you want. I don't think you are crazy at all - on the contrary! I think it's easy to get stuck and do like everyone else - just because. Wonderful both with travel and house dream! Thanks also for the tips on renting! We have downloaded a contract, and we will make sure to photograph everything, great idea!
