Travelling for fitness has become a new trend. But if you're travelling as usual but still want to maintain your training - how do you do it? We started our training again yesterday, and the ambition is of course to keep going now. But as you know, we are planning a long trip with the motorhome, and how do you keep up your training?
Jogging
We have thought of two ways to train when we are travelling. 1) Go for a run - This doesn't require a lot of equipment and should work in most places. 2) Run the workout. Tapout XT - A TV, some DVDs, some rubber bands and possibly weight gloves are what you need.
Tap Out XT training programme
We have previously taken the programme with us and stayed in a hotel room in Barcelona. Great! Now the only catch is that we have to stand outside the motorhome (yes, we can hang the TV there) if we are to fit ... Could look a bit festive perhaps? What do the rest of you do? Do you train or exercise in any way when you are travelling? What are your best tips?
Alexandra says:
Sometimes I exercise while travelling, sometimes not. Never feel any compulsion to exercise when I'm on holiday, but since I like to exercise, I usually want to do it! 🙂 When I was in Cyprus this summer alone with the daughter (who refused to join the Bamse Club), I ran some sessions with body weight in the hotel room sometimes when she slept dinner. Last summer when we were on a 5-week car-tent holiday in Europe, we had a TRX with us and I trained outside the tent at the campsite, you have to offer a little to yourself. 😉

We go for long walks, but that's probably not the exercise you're thinking of;-)

Ditte says:
I like to walk long distances every day, and sometimes I also go cycling. Since I've been training for most of my life and am a gymnastics director at heart, I have a good foundation and my muscles are in good shape. But of course my arms, back and stomach would need that little extra. But I feel good anyway....
It feels important to move every day and I do. Then, of course, you can't eat more than you spend ...
I think you are diligent! And the TV in a tree seems exciting. Maybe there is some app to connect that you can watch....

Running is a great form of exercise when you're travelling. My husband and I both run long distance races and we do running training every other day - even when we are travelling. We've seen a lot of things / had sightseeing tours in new places we've come to - "because you just want to see what's around the next corner" :).
Good luck with your training!

Alexandra, smart to exercise when your daughter is sleeping! I did not know what a TRX was, but picture googled now, and it looked like a smart training thing! Great to hear that someone else is offering themselves in that way ... now I feel a little encouraged to also dare to train outside the motorhome!
🙂
BP, yes, long walks count too!
🙂
Ditte, it definitely sounds like you're keeping going! The most important thing is probably to move regularly, so that you don't "sleep in". Both walking and cycling are good exercise! And well... not really in a tree, but we hang the TV on the outside of the motorhome - works great!
🙂
Ika, thanks for the inspiration! I can imagine that running works well and maybe even becomes more fun when travelling, because then the views change! I tend to find running boring sometimes... unfortunately.

I no longer have to worry about that.

Across the board says:
With 3.5 kilometres to work (and the same distance to home), it will be a bicycle or the apostle horses and that will have to be enough for me 😉.

I have never trained while travelling, but of course if you are going to be away for a long time, you may have to do it.

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
Some form of exercise is always good. We try to move a little every day.

Criss-cross, that's a pretty good stretch every day!
🙂
FantasyDining, on shorter trips it doesn't matter as much, of course... but when you're out for a long time...
Nils-Åke, the best thing is when you make it a habit to move, somehow!

Rkuth in Virginia says:
Exercising used to be something that only
athletes did 'in my day'. Now it is considered normal
and NOT exercising is almost sinful.
During the war, when there was no petrol, nobody had a
car, so you could just walk, cycle or ski there.
one would. And the kids were jumping hay and rope and playing
hide-and-seek or cowboys and Indians, so you stayed in the
form naturally.
But, as I said, that was then!

Ruth in Virgina, what an interesting and good reflection! Yes, times have changed... As a public health scientist, I think it's really good if movement is a natural part of daily life, but that's not really how society is today. Many people sit still all day at work and even children sit still, in front of their TVs and tablets....

Ninni, Henrik and the Hjulius motorhome says:
Hi!!! Exciting with your trip! We are not exercise freaks at all, but I (Ninni) love to walk and have to move a little because my joints get even more painful if I am still. And since I have a dog, there are walks, preferably long ones if I get to decide. 🙂 For a while I walked with poles and jogged sometimes but my joints and shoulders did not fix the spelling :-/ Even the swimming that I did twice a week before has gone to hell. But but ... you have to be happy about the little things they usually say. Have a nice trip!!!

Beautiful little everyday life says:
I tried to exercise outside the motorhome this summer, because my back hurt so much, but it was probably very embarrassing in places and I think some others also got a good laugh! But I offer that! 🙂

Ninni, sad of course when certain types of exercise do not work, but you have to listen to your body! The most important thing is that you move in some way, and walks are good exercise!
Beautiful little Vardag, nice to hear that there are more people who have dared to train outside the motorhome! I hope we dare too!
😉
