Both yesterday and today I have spent at Nalen in Stockholm - at a conference. Apart from the fact that it was a good and interesting conference, it's fun to visit such historic premises. The building dates from 1888 and was originally used for everything from cycling schools and political meetings to Christmas parties, bazaars and sports events.
Stockholm's hottest entertainment palace
From the 1930s to the end of the 1960s, Nalen was Stockholm's hottest entertainment centre, where major artists performed. During the years 1967-1997, the Levi Petri Foundation provided spiritual care here. And now, since 1998, Nalen is a music centre again!
Many concerts are organised here, but there is also a restaurant, a banquet hall and... a conference. Have you ever visited Nalen and have some memories to share?
Maggan and Ingemar says:
Yes, of course I have been to Nalen. My sons have danced Lindy Hop, and at Nalen there was a competition in Lindy Hop. It was during Nalen's era of entertainment that Lindy took off here in Sweden, it was also called Jitterbug, but nowadays Lindy Hop is the name of the dance. "It was great fun to see and experience the dance at Nalen and its beautiful premises.

Passed that house over the weekend and we were just commenting on how lovely it is with old buildings.

Have been there many times and checked out various concerts. I like the intimacy of the venue. It does not take a lot of audience, but the atmosphere is always high and the musicians always have close contact with the audience. Like the place!

Oh, it is very cosy there and I was at a concert there last winter. Best memory is John Legend in 2005 probably, a fantastic concert!

Maggan and Ingemar, lindyhop has been popular, but I hadn't really realised that it's the same as jitterbug... Great that you clarify!
🙂
Marina, I love beautiful buildings, and there are quite a few in Sweden, and even more down in Europe!
🙂
BP, glad you've been there a lot! I have seen some concerts there, but not many. But it is really nice premises!
Marie, great to hear! It feels like many people have some memory when you ask about Nalen! I myself remember a concert with Louise Hoffsten there.

Oh, Nalen! Was there as a 13 year old, 1962, on Saturdays when it was open for teenagers in the afternoon between 15 and 18. and groups like "The Spotnicks" and "Shanes" played. Remember my black cuffed jeans, pink socks, mantovani style suede shoes (a kind of suede loafer) pink short-sleeved ribbed polo shirt and on top of that a "Bogner style" blanket jacket (the height of fashion).
And boy, did we dance... Great fun! Since then I've been to the hall many times, but that place is always associated with my teenage years. Remember the sweet time ...

Ama de casa, hehe... it's good that you haven't been everywhere in the world... although Nalen can be a nice acquaintance!
😉
Ninni, nice and gives some feeling of a bygone era!
