We have now driven from Gothenburg to France. Night-black motorways through Denmark, windy sea between Rödby - Puttgarden and mile after mile together with all the trucks through Germany. Then some confusing roundabouts through Holland, driving on freshly lit motorways through Belgium and then into France, where we now drive among villages and cows in the countryside.
Rest area in Germany
We have spent one night at a rest area in Germany and one night at a rest area in France. At McDonald's in Germany we unfortunately couldn't use wifi because they require a German phone number... but now we have our data sim cards from Holidayphone.

Nils-Åke, yes we will be away for a year! But it's the wrong time of year to hang out in Germany and Belgium... We asked at McDonald's, but they said you have to have a German phone number... But we don't have a phone number at all right now...

Maggan and Ingemar, you have to order for each country. We have ordered for France, Spain, Italy and Croatia.
Aila, the first goal was to get down to the west coast of France. Then the plan is to continue slowly southwards...
Yvonne, we have travelled so late that it is so cold. It's cold even in France, but the air is a bit milder.

Nice to have arrived in France and it seems to have gone well. Nice that the data sim cards are working so we can get some reports and interesting to hear more about how these sim cards turn out with speed and prices. We have used to buy local SIM cards in different countries (prepaid cards) and then connected the computer to the phone. But I don't know if it would be an advantage to get a SIM card from Holydayphone.
Enjoy France and hope the shellfish take the opportunity to find you. Maybe it's the other way round....

Ama de casa says:
I thought it was really sad when they removed the ferry line from Gothenburg to Amsterdam. We usually wanted to go to France directly, and skip Germany. In those days it wasn't the Euro and we didn't want to change to German marks, and they didn't take road maps either. It was much nicer to sleep a night on the boat than to harrow the autobahn just to get there...
🙂
Don't they have free wifi at McDonalds there? I thought they had that everywhere.

Ditte, the computer sim cards work well, but I don't know how long... will come back!
Anonymous, it will probably calm down with time...

Ama de casa, they had free wifi... for those with a German phone number.
🙁
