When you're abroad, it's always fun to browse the supermarkets! When the prices are good, like here in Portugal, it's even more fun. Perhaps the cheapest is at chains like Lidl, but it has been nicer to shop at the store Continente.
The offer in Portuguese supermarkets
The range is not dissimilar to the Swedish one, but there is a greater variety of spicy sausages, goat and sheep cheeses ... and of course the dried fish. bacalhau! The fresh fish counters are also often beautiful, and of course you can browse through lots of unknown and exciting fish.
If you're craving something you're used to from home, at least here on the Algarve coast, head to the Apolónia speciality store. Shopping here is expensive, but you can find food from all over the world. As well as German, American and Asian goods, you'll find Swedish herring, Leksandsknäcke, Abba's fish balls and Kalle's caviar...
Low prices for wine and beer
Another difference, of course, is the price of wine. It is so cheap to buy wine here that it is almost dangerous. Today we went to a wine and spirits shop in a centre on the outskirts of Albufeira where it was extra cheap. We chose one of the more expensive boxes with red wine and then we had to pay 65 SEK for five litres ... Jameson whiskey we had to pay 120 SEK/bottle for and the beer was 3.50 SEK each.

Fish balls! I have been longing for that for a very long time! Is there anyone who longs for it? Does it still exist?! But of course I get the urge to check out what else they can have at Apolónia! Do they also have like Asian ingredients? That's what I miss most when I shop in Portugal!

I agree, it's so much fun to stroll around food shops abroad! Not only because there are different products, but they can also be presented in a different way than here at home. For example, fries can be available in bulk 😀.

Åsa, yes, unfortunately the shop is probably only here in the Algarve... But yes, there is some Asian stuff: Asian spices, miso soup and stuff like that I saw....
Tony, we can see why you like Portugal! And we're glad we took a trip west. Very beautiful at Sagres! We did not see the campsite, but understand that there are many nice places!
Camilla, this is true. In France, for example, many shellfish were bought live... also different!
Across and across, haha, yes, right? You have to do that sometimes!
