Galé beach, on the outskirts of Albufeira on the Algarve coast, is in our opinion the best beach in Portugal. To one side is a long stretch of fine-grained sand. We go jogging there every other day. On the other side is a strip of beach with beautiful rock formations and small cosy coves, where you can find your own little secluded corner for sunbathing and swimming.
Portugal's best beach
Galé beach must be the best beach in Portugal! The beach is located on the outskirts of Albufeira and right next to the beach is a car park. When you walk down to the beach from the car park, you can choose to go to the right or to the left. To the right there is a long nice sandy beach where we usually jog, and to the left is the part of the beach that we think is the nicest.
Here, the rocks divide the beach into a number of small coves, which are beautifully surrounded by rock formations and incredibly cosy. Here, in winter, we can pick and choose among the small beaches. We usually almost be alone here. And the beach we choose - you have to climb a bit to reach ...
Sunbathing in January
As you can see, sunbathing in Portugal in January is perfectly fine! To be honest, only a few hours each day, in the afternoon, are warm enough to sunbathe. In the evenings and nights it gets chilly. But so what if you can enjoy a few hours in the sun every afternoon? The Portuguese, on the other hand, look a little surprised at us as they walk around in cover-ups...
Jogging on the beach in Galé
On the long flat part of the beach we usually go jogging, and do you know what happened when we jogging on the beach today? Well, we ran into some other Swedish bloggers! All of a sudden, we bumped into Elisabeth and Lennart from the blog Motorhome Ellen.
We have been reading each other's blogs for a very long time, but have not met in real life before. Very fun to finally meet for real! We had a nice chat and several good tips on what to see and do in the area. Unfortunately we didn't have our camera with us, but you can see their pictures. here.

There are beautiful beaches on the Algarve coast! I sometimes went and discovered them when I was working in Ayamonte in Spain.
Since you are there and hopefully going over to Spain next (and Seville?!?) I have to recommend a restaurant where we usually eat when we go to the Algarve coast. The restaurant is called O Infante and is located in Altura, on the old road N125. You don't drive into the town, so the restaurant is by the road. Good food, not too expensive, huge portions! This is the place to try the best cod in the Portuguese national dish: Bacalao dorado (as we say in Spain). Soooo good right there! They have great seafood stews, too. And much more. Worth a visit!

Mr Tony says:
I'll say it again: If you want to see the genuine and really nice on the Algarve coast, head west, towards Lagos!
Right now you are in the most touristy place you can be
even though it is not the tourist season.
And what you said about not wanting to go back again doesn't matter when there is no direct distance.
But of course you do what you want!
/Tony

How cosy you seem to have it and how resilient you are! I have exercised 3 times this week, but with the cruise food it has probably still gone in the wrong direction... 🙂 Now enjoy the sun and Portugal!

Anki, fun with blog meetings, and with the blogs we knew we were close to each other!
Annika, glad you are reading and following along!
🙂
Lars Permelin, it's great to meet other bloggers!
Casa Annika, how nice that you tell us! Thank you very much! I will look at the map and see where it is! Maybe we will come to Seville!? We have not talked about it yet, but of course it would be fun! Shout if you want a visit!
🙂
Tony, thanks again for the tip! It is very possible that we will actually do so, and take a little trip west. We will stay here for a while (as we ordered the ACSI camping catalogue 2015 here to the site) and in the meantime it would be interesting to see more west!
Katta, glad you're reading! We have had a very good impression of Portugal so far!

Of course I want visitors:-)
And I'm happy to give tips! Here is a new tip: go to Aracena! (Not the city but the area, the mountains) If you are not going to Spain in the south but a little further north, it is just on the other side of the border. Lovely little white villages, fantastic pata negra (this is where the best comes from), wonderful hiking trails under the cork oaks...

It's a small world! At least the motorhome world! In an international perspective! There is probably some kind of migration of Swedish motorhome owners down there every winter. And many know each other.
