Maria Luisa Park in Seville, Spain

If you ever visit Seville, don't miss the Parque de Maria Luisa. In some cities, guidebooks tell you to visit the city's park, and then you're disappointed when the park is nothing more than a green lawn with a few trees and flowers. When you visit Maria Luisa in Seville, you won't be disappointed! This park is a lush and colourful adventure with orange trees, fountains, birds, sculptures and amazing buildings.

Walking tour with local guide

Here in Seville we had a meeting with the blogger Annika, who lives in Seville with her Jesús and their little daughter Disa. Annika writes interestingly about things like everyday life, cultural differences and Spanish food on her lovely blog. Casa Annika.

Annika has lived in Seville on and off for eight years (and for the last few years permanently) - and what's better than a local guide? We started with a tour of the amazing Maria Luisa Park.

Maria Luisa in Seville - park with a long history

The park has a long history, but much of it was built for the 1929 World Ibero-American Exposition. The most striking structure is the Plaza de Espana, a huge palatial building in front of a square and canal. It housed Spain's pavilions and you can still see mosaics depicting important events in different Spanish regions.

Scenes in different films

The setting of the square is reminiscent of a fairy tale, which probably explains why it has been used in several films, such as Lawrence of Arabia, Starwars and The Dictator.

More of Seville and good food

After visiting the park, we walked along the canal, before taking a bus home to Annika and Jesús. We were spoilt with, among other things, delicious mussels (coquinas) and the dish Arroz de marisco (rice with seafood). We also got tips on more sights in Seville and on different Spanish specialities that we can look for in the shops! How great is it to have blog contacts?

Motorhome parking in Seville

After our adventures in Seville, we headed back to the caravan park where we keep our motorhome. The car park Areas Autocaravanas is centrally located and consists of a fenced site on tarmac. It has water, the possibility to empty tanks, rubbish collection, electricity (for some cars) and WiFi in a special room. The price (2015) is €12 per day + €3 per day for electricity.

Quite ok considering it is so central, and considering there are staff on site. The site is located on Carretera de la Esclusa, Avenida García Morato S/N.

The Barber of Seville

There is still a lot to see in Seville, and we had planned to take a walk in the old neighbourhoods. But that didn't happen, as my (vain) husband insisted on wearing his trainers on the walk. The result? Big fleshy blisters that look rather unpleasant. Despite the bandages, he's only wearing sandals now ...

Instead of a city walk, we got a haircut at the car park. A visit to the barber in Seville, that is! Peter likes to experiment with design and colour on everything from houseboats to clothes. He doesn't usually get free rein with my hair, but now that I don't have a job to go to, I let him have his way ...
