Vilamoura in Portugal is for those looking for an exclusive holiday resort, with five-star hotels and luxury yachts. We have now left Albufeira and headed east in Portugal. Our first stop was in Vilamoura, near Quarteira, where we went down to the marina and the beach.

Vilamoura on the Algarve coast
Vilamoura feels exclusive, and at the same time a little stiff, with large hotels, expensive yachts and fine restaurants. Right next to the marina is a long and fine sandy beach that is certainly packed during the high season.
Vilamoura is located on the Algarve coast, about 16 kilometres east of Albufeira. It is also not far from Faro, which is about 25 kilometres to the east.
Vilamoura - an exclusive holiday resort
Vilamoura is definitely a holiday destination for those who like exclusivity. There are many high-class hotels here, as well as golf hotels, golf courses and a luxurious casino. Many people come here just to play golf, or perhaps to engage in sports such as sailing or windsurfing.
The main attraction was the harbour, where luxury boats are lined up and bobbing in the water. There is also a seafront promenade (Avenida Infante de Sagres), an old fishing village (Quarteira) and many bars and cafés.
Along the waterfront is a long, fine sandy beach. The beach below Vilamoura is called Praia de Vilamoura. If you follow the beach to the west it is called Praia de Falésia, while to the west it is called Praia de Quarteira.

Ditte says:
I am inclined to agree. Was in Villamoura a number of years ago and thought it was beautiful. I mostly remember the beach... And that it was cold in the sea even in summer. The Atlantic Ocean does not get any direct bathing heat that suits me.
But now you have been here too.
