Today we drove through a desert landscape in Spain. It is barren and mountainous and hardly any vegetables anywhere. Sometimes the landscape can be almost beautiful. Sometimes it feels rather ghostly. You sometimes wonder if you are on the moon.
Blown in Roquetas de Mar
The wind started blowing in Roquetas de Mar last night, so we didn't dare keep the awning up outside the motorhome and took it down. (In the future, we'll have to get some better tent pegs and maybe straps, but at the moment it feels a bit too unstable ...) This morning the wind was still blowing and we decided to continue our journey eastwards along the coast.
From Roquetas de Mar to Torrevieja
We then set off, from Roquetas de Mar and eastwards towards Torrevieja. It is about 27 miles to drive and you can expect about 3 hours of driving time. All the time you have the sea on your right side. A large part of the journey we drove through a landscape reminiscent of the moon.
Moon-like landscape
You would almost think you were travelling through Morocco, or some other country with vast deserts. Everywhere this barren, dry, sandy landscape. Sometimes even more tents with vegetable gardens and then, again, this moon-like landscape. We never knew it looked like this in Spain!

In some places, it is truly a moonscape. And then there are all the almond trees, orange groves, olive trees and other greenery. But of course the coast is cold....I don't know if I find the lunar landscape so beautiful, I'm more fond of the green.

I also think the landscape here along the coast sometimes looks like a moonscape and is not always so beautiful. But between the turns come flowering almond trees, olive groves, vineyards and orange trees that soften it. Here we have had brilliant sunshine and no wind, so it feels a bit sad to go home. But nice that it is commuting distance. Keep up the good work! I guess new experiences and challenges await.

BP, I think I like the green better, although there are some fascinating formations in places.
Anonymous, I think I agree. Like the green better!
Ditte, great commuting distance! We saw an orange farm at the end. Maybe there will be more of that.
Steve, of course it is! And thanks for writing such nice things about our blog!
🙂
Znogge, that's probably true! And there is a certain type of image that is shown the most.

Henny says:
It reminds me of the landscape around LA and San Diego. You don't have to go far from the coast to find hills and cliffs that almost look like desert - which they are. Without irrigation, not much would grow there either.

Maggan and Ingemar says:
If I remember correctly, many years ago a lot of westerns were filmed in this desert landscape. On the way north ? It is now the spring and the heat comes 🙂 .
Take care and enjoy your trip.

Henny, can imagine that! A few times when we were driving we said the landscape reminded us of the USA (what we've seen on TV and so on, haven't been there..)
Maggan and Ingemar, the landscape is probably suitable for that! Well, soon to the east... We will be out for a year, and will not be back in Sweden until 1 December.
Rolle and Carina, haha, you can never be sure...
