We had actually intended to make a slightly longer stop in Torrevieja, and maybe meet both bloggers and friends of friends, but that did not happen. The timing was not quite right, and then we did not find a good place where we wanted to stay either. So it was a quick visit!
Torrevieja
Torrevieja is a Spanish city located in the province of Alicante, on the Costa Blanca coast in southern Spain. The city has around 83,000 inhabitants and a small number of these are Swedes and Norwegians. Torrevieja is one of the many places in Spain where Scandinavians choose to buy property and settle.
So there is a good chance of hearing Swedish or Norwegian when walking around the town. Torrevieja also has plenty of shops and restaurants. There are also many popular beaches, such as Playa Del Cura in the south and Playa Los Locos and La Mata beach in the north.
Swedish products
During our quick visit to Torrevieja, we passed Skandiamäklarna, the shop "Ask & Embla", the restaurant "Svensken på hörnet" and countless Swedish flags. In the grocery store Carrefour we found Kalles caviar, Abbas herring, Kavli soft cheese and crispbread. You could almost say that it felt like a quick visit to Sweden!
There was no crispbread for us, because it is actually quite expensive down here. There was no caviar either. We already have two tubes in the car, and we have a hard time eating them. There is so much local good food that you want to eat! As a temporary tourist it is not so interesting, but we understand that Scandinavians who live here for a long time appreciate getting hold of "home-made" products. Now we have waved goodbye to Torrevieja and continued eastwards ... you will soon see where!

We were in Albir, small town above Benidorm...pure Norway. Norwegians everywhere, Norwegian estate agents, Norwegian doctors, not to mention all the pubs with Köttekakor...the equivalent of Swedish Torrevieja!

Solan, it does feel a bit funny! It's very clear down here in Southern Europe. In some places there are English pubs everywhere, in other places everything is in German...
😉
Nils-Åke, thank you! There are of course nice and good places everywhere, if you know! This time it was a bit strange, we were looking for a campsite because we wanted to put up our tent. But then we only stayed one night, and then a campsite would have been better really... Now we have driven a little longer, but still, thank you very much for your tips!
Anja, haha, no, that's a bit strange? But many Swedes live here all year round, or at least often, and then you might appreciate having access to caviar and crispbread. But for us it was a funny experience to see so much Swedish at once...!
😉

As you probably know, Torrevieija is a Swedish colony. Many pensioners and of course younger people have moved there permanently - including AMA.
We have been there one day and got exactly the same impression as you. To top it all off, we found a parking space outside a Swedish medical centre with doctors, dentists and naprapaths.
Perfectly okay "village" for older people who can not / want to learn Spanish and want the "social" security. It's like home but with a much better climate.
But during a holiday I want to experience the country I'm going to and what it has to offer.
It will be fun to see if you end up in Benidorm...

It's a shame that we didn't stay in Torrevieja and a pity that you didn't meet the more genuine part of the city because it definitely exists. At Carre there is food from many countries among the dishes. But a visit to the market hall or the more local shops such as Mercadona and Cunsum would have been more Spanish-orientated, we shop there and at local butchers, local fruit and vegetable shops.
And if you are going to stay there for a long time like we did, I think you should learn the language. It is essential. Only then will you come into contact with Spaniards. We live in an area where we as Swedes are in a clear minority and we like that. (Our neighbours are mostly Spanish.)
It will be interesting to see where you go next...
Alicante is definitely worth a stop!

Re-reading some posts that I missed before. Great that you got a tent that fits a motorhome and at a very reasonable price. Exercise means a lot to you, I understand, and I can imagine that it becomes even more important in motorhome life, where you do not move in such large areas indoors.
Have fun!

Ditte, of course there is more genuine Spanish in Torrevieja! I chose to write about the Swedish we saw because we have not seen it anywhere else and then it was what we especially noticed and thought was interesting!
