Today we can tell you about an absolutely magical experience! We have seen a light show in a cave in Baux de Provence in France. Limestone blocks have long been quarried here to build various castles, and today there are amazing light shows here called "Carrières de Lumières".

Finding the right one
We have received many great tips on France from Monica, who lives in Provence and writes on her blog. Life in a southern French town. We are very happy and grateful for these tips! Today, one of all the tips led to the beautiful Baux de Provence, which is about half an hour from Arles. That is, if you drive correctly. We did not.
On small roads
The GPS lurked around us on a lot of small roads that would have been great if you had a moped. As we fought our way through all the encounters (!) we wondered if we would find the right one... but eventually nature changed and amazing limestone formations appeared. The small town of Baux de Provence still looks much as it did in the Middle Ages, with Renaissance houses carved directly from the limestone cliff.
Light shows
In Baux de Provence, limestone blocks have been quarried to build various castles. The caves, created by the quarrying of the limestone blocks, now host amazing light shows called 'Carrières de Lumières'. This year the show "Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael - The Giants of the Renaissance" and the shorter show "Imaginary voyage", which takes you to nature in the footsteps of Jules Verne.
Awesome experience
An absolutely magical experience, we must say! The floor and walls of the cave are constantly changing colour and shape. One minute you're standing in a grand hall with huge paintings, and the next you're watching pillars grow out of the ground or seeing Leonardo da Vinci's drawings flipping through books. Always surprising and always to the sound of classical music. See this if you get the chance!
Baux de Provence
We were here for two hours and it's huge and what you see here is only a fraction of what's on display. This is for the whole family and there's also some wonderful scenery around, so pack your lunch and take a full day in Baux de Provence.

WOW! That was really cool! I'm glad you were tipped off by Monica, because you might not have discovered that "gem" yourself.
Brave to take the campervan for "excursions" in the local area. Wondering why you don't rent a moped or bikes or something more "easily used" on these mini-roads....

I am so glad you took the time and money to visit this. We haven't seen the latest show but it will be as amazing as when we saw the impressionists. Surely you leave with an experience of a lifetime?
What a pity that we might miss each other. We expect to be back in our village by 26 May. Are you still in our part of France then?
