We have now travelled to the Verdon River in France. Right at the mouth of the river is the Lac de Sainte Croix lake, where you can hire a boat to navigate the river's shimmering green waters. The Verdon River in France, located in the south-western part of the Gorge du Verdon, is a magical place with waterfalls and stunning scenery.
Table of contents
Camping Le Galetas
Camping Le Galetas is in an excellent location for exploring the Lac de Sainte Croix lake and the Verdon river in France, which is located in the canyon. Gorges du Verdon. Next to the campsite there is also a large car park for 10 euro/day, but we chose camping this time (18 euro/day) because free wifi is included in the price. That's important to us!
Heat, caves and greenery
From the campsite The Galetas it is close to the lake where canoes and pedal boats are rented everywhere. We chose to hire a pedal boat and pedalled out onto the lake and then into the intense green-blue river Verdon.
The river, which runs between the high mountains of the Gorges du Verdon canyon, is truly fabulous. The heat, with its 29 degrees of humidity, was compact and the greenery was intense. Here and there you could see small caves, interesting rock formations or small waterfalls. We walked in peace and quiet and enjoyed the fantastic nature.
Pedal boat on the Verdon River in France
Even though there were more pedal boats and canoes out on the water, it was almost completely silent, as if the mountains somehow cancelled out all the sounds. This is France, but it almost felt like we were in Asia or New Zealand. This was truly a magical experience!
Gorges du Verdon
The river itself is about 25 km long and the depth of the valley can be up to 700 metres. We first travelled on the roads above the river and saw it from above before coming back 2 days later. This is a must in France.
