Located in the Gorges du Verdon, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France. We couldn't agree more! In this charming village, the small stone houses crowd the road up to the high mountain with the small church. Follow us to Moustiers-Sainte-Marie in France, in text and pictures.
Village in the mountains
What a charming village this is! Moustiers Sainte Marie lies in a deep ravine, with high mountains rising dramatically nearby. Well up the mountain is a small church, which can be reached by a long and winding staircase. Between two high peaks you can also see an iron chain running, with a star dangling from the centre. This has been hanging since the time of the Crusades. Fascinating!
Charming alleys in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie
This charming village is famous for its earthenware covered with tin glaze, which is sold everywhere in the small shops. We're not here to shop, but it's just as nice to stroll around the charming alleys or sit on one of the lovely outdoor terraces.
Fantastic views
Before we felt done with the village, we opted for the steeply uphill walk to the church. This was a bit sweaty, but what you don't do for a great view? But it's good that you don't go up to the church every day, so to speak ... A tip from us to take good shoes and no flip-flops because the stairs are steep and quite slippery in places, and take your time with water in your bag.
In the next few days we plan to drive around the canyon here in the Gorge du Verdon and see more of this national park, so there will be a lot of nature and dizzying heights here on the blog!

WOW, these pictures I really look forward to. Your national park with the ravines is very reminiscent of the Parc National des Cévennes with ravines where the river Tarne is. So I understand exactly why you are so enthusiastic.

Just as nice again that my tips come in handy. Provence is absolutely fantastic and there is so much to see and do. Here you will experience dizzying heights! Looking forward to pictures. In some places you can park and walk out on a small "bridge" right over the ravine. Nothing for those afraid of heights! There are nice little restaurants up there too!
