St Tropez in France is known for luxury and glamour. One of the most talked-about resorts on the French Riviera, the exclusive shops and fine restaurants are packed into the harbour. Just outside, the luxury yachts bob, each one bigger than the last. It was in the 1950s, when Brigitte Bardot made the film "And God created woman..." that St Tropez developed its exclusive reputation.
Charming houses and luxury yachts
It was mainly after the end of the Second World War that St Tropez in France started to develop into a lively seaside resort with visitors from all over the world. The small resort is particularly famous for being popular with jet-setters and the wealthy upper classes.
This has initially been a sleepy little fishing town, but after the film "And God created woman..." with Brigitte Bardot was filmed in St Tropez in 1956, the town became known as "the playground of upper-class youth", to quote the guidebook. And that's pretty much what this town still is!
Like many old fishing towns, St Tropez is a charming town with old houses and lots of water. What stands out here are the huge luxury yachts, the designer clothes shops and the exclusive restaurants. There are a number of Michelin-starred restaurants here.
St Tropez in France
As a harbour town, I can't find what the rumours say, and sometimes you can just be in the wrong mood or expectations have been high. We have walked in alleys and been around the harbour but where is that extra something. St Tropez have been experts at keeping a reputation alive, but we find nothing that many other charming places have along the French Riviera. We think it's mostly expensive and a bit stiffly boring.
We rolled on
We parked the motorhome a little bit outside and took a walk around the city, before we felt it was time to move on. We also had time to check out some of the shops, and Peter found both a pair of white shorts and a white jacket that were too expensive.

Understand you! The "troop" is probably best if you have unlimited money and I have never thought it was so fantastic (I have been there three times, shorter time).
There is so much more....
If you're heading for Nice, take a detour up to St Paul de Vence, a beautiful artists' village, a bit touristy like so many things, but beautiful. Here is also the cemetery where Chagall is buried. And be sure to visit the Chagall Museum in Nice.

We have also looked towards St Tropez, guessing that it is similar to Monaco. I myself would rather take a walk in a national park. Have a good time

Steve, no, not particularly... but we had time to look around!
Nils-Åke, thank you! Great to hear that you like the design!
Ditte, St Tropez was nice, but not enough for us to stay and spend too much money. As you write, there are many other nice places too! We are not going east now but west (I know, it gets a little messy because we were up in the country for a while).
Matts, we've never been to Monaco so we can't say for sure... St Tropez is nice, but maybe not worth the cost. Certainly the Verdon National Park was more special!
Henny, haha, thank you so much for that comment! 🙂
Znogge, I can understand that it was expensive! We only paid the parking fee for the motorhome (60 kr for 2 hours).

Great picture of you! You dress in dramatic colours with that hair colour and that haircut. See that you seem to have just the right amount of heat. Here the north wind insists on sweeping around the house knot day after day and then it does not help if the sun looks out every now and then.

A super hot tip for you!!!! This weekend is the Formula 1 race in Monaco, so you just have to go there to experience the atmosphere. It starts already on Thursday with free practice, Saturday qualification and Sunday competition. We have been there several years and it is so cool. You get so close to the drivers and teams down in the harbour. At 13.00 on Friday they open up the track and then you can even drive on it as a private person. There are parking garages where you can park your motorhome. You should not miss it. Here you can read more. http://husbilsliv.blogspot.com.es/2010/05/bilder-fran-monaco.html

Anders and Birgitta, thank you very much for the great tip! Do not know if we will turn around and go that way now ... oh, there is so much to see and do, difficult to get everything! Looked at your links and saw that there were some boats "model larger" there too 😉.
Anja, haha, yes, some of those boats are like Finnish ferries... 😉.

Ninni, it feels luxurious because of the luxury yachts and the high prices, but otherwise it feels like other French coastal towns 😉.
