Camping in Calvi - La Pinede in Corsica! La Pinede is a really nice campsite in Calvi and a very good location in north-west Corsica. You can walk straight down to the beach from the campsite, and the town is within walking distance. Follow us to the campsite in Calvi in Corsica in text and pictures! We wanted to tell you a little about this campsite, and also a little about our general experience of camping in Corsica.

Mountain road to camping in Calvi
Today we have driven from St Florent in northern Corsica to Calvi in the north-west. What a landscape! The mountains are dramatically jagged and dizzyingly high, although the highest peak in Corsica (Monte Cinto, 2700 metres above sea level) is just south of today's route. The roads meander along the mountainsides and we, driving slowly, have to slow down and let one stressed-out Corsican after another pass by.
Wild nature
The countryside is intensely green and consists mostly of low shrubs and wild flowers. There are almost no buildings at all, and if it weren't for the oncoming cars, you'd think you were on a completely unexplored continent.
Only when we reach the coast do we find some villages, and next to them one paradise beach after another ... Now we have found a nice campsite in Calvi right on the beach and it is called La Pinede.
La Pinede - Camping in Calvi in Corsica
Camping La Pinede is located just outside Calvi and here we pay 16 euro/day with ACSI discount. The campsite is really big and we stand in one part with motorhomes under large shady trees. In other parts of the campsite there are cabins and space for tents.
The service centres are excellent and there is also a restaurant, but we haven't tried it. We almost always eat in the motorhome, at least if we are in the neighbourhood. It is very close to the beach, and to get into town, just walk along the beach, or on the footpath that runs just above the beach.
Camping in Corsica
We've been to three campsites in Corsica so far. So what is camping in Corsica really like? These are our experiences so far:
- Camping doesn't have to be so expensive, at least not now in June. We have paid 15 - 19 euros per day (either ACSI discount or we have checked the price in advance).
- There really are lots of campsites - we see camping signs everywhere! However, we haven't seen any proper caravan sites yet.
- The campsites are scenic and sometimes a little casually disorganised. At the last campsite, the owner waved that we could park, but we did not check in until about five hours later. Whether we used electricity or not we had to answer ourselves at check-out (1 day out of 3) - full trust but less strict control. This large campsite is well organised though!
- Most campers have small motorhomes. All the motorhomes we see are from our size downwards. Many people also camp with cars and tents, motorbikes and tents or off-road vehicles with tents on the roof. Caravan or cabin are also common options - all kinds of people camp!

ACSI is certainly a good thing. You can find really nice campsites that way. Often they are usually so expensive otherwise without discounts. Wonderful that you enjoy and feel good:))

sv: Haha! Yes, the thing about learning what you DON'T need to know is a classic. When I attended the animal care programme in Kolmården, the class was out fishing for what we didn't need to know when there was a hunting care registration coming up.
- Yes, said veterinarian Röken, you don't need to know things like that a saloon rifle has a calibre of 21...
It's been stuck in my brain ever since.
The funny thing was also that the first question on the paper was:
"What is the calibre of a shotgun?"
Haha! That was Smoke's way of saying: It's just as well that you don't bother to ask that kind of question 🙂.

Funny to read the description of campers here with tents and the whole scale of motorhomes. I guess there has been a different description of camping in Sweden, with a little fancier vehicles and quite a lot of caravans. But maybe it is difficult to drive around here in the hairpin curves.

Deciree, we think ACSI is perfect. Good price and electricity is always included (minimum 4 KwH I think, but in France they don't count as in Spain so it's free electricity).
Ama de casa, if we can go here with our big car, you can probably go here! 🙂 And haha, isn't it funny that some things stick? Maybe that's how you should teach "you do not have to memorise this"... haha 😉
Steve, great to be close to both the beach and the city!
BP, we like it when it's this mixed with campers, and it seems to be here in Corsica! All sorts of interesting little cars suddenly raising a little roof or folding a little tent on the roof or whatever they do 😉.
Anette, oh it is sooo nice here! Really recommend! We have hardly seen any larger motorhome than ours (7.30) yet, but we don't really see any obstacles. There are buses and lorries on the roads! It can be difficult to park inside the cities, but on the campsites we have been, you would also have been able to fit, without problems!
Anders and Birgitta, it's fantastic here! I do not really dare to answer how it would go with your large vehicle. Buses and lorries drive on the major roads, so it should be possible to drive there. The campsites we have been to have also been spacious, so you could probably stay there. But we have not been everywhere yet... we can come back when we have seen more!
Nils-Åke, the beaches are absolutely fantastic! And there seems to be nice beaches everywhere!
No M, it feels like there are more adventurers here! Lots of variants of mini motorhomes and off-road vehicles, but relatively few large motorhomes (some in our size but few larger ones). Yes, in Sweden and elsewhere, larger vehicles are definitely more common!
Matts, this campsite is actually quite nice and well maintained with large pitches, pool and restaurant. I described a bit about the previous one (in St Florent), we liked it as well, the staff was friendly but it was quite disorganised, a bit "manana-feeling" 😉.
