We've heard a lot about the Emerald Coast or 'Costa Smeralda' - Sardinia's most famous stretch of beach. It's said to have the whitest sand and clearest water, but perhaps the "emerald" is best associated with the exclusive lifestyle of its visitors.
Porto Cervo on the Emerald Coast
The centre of the coastal strip is the town of Porto Cervo, created by Prince Karim Aga Khan in the 1950s and 1960s and designed by famous architects. What's most noticeable now, apart from some coolly designed hotels, is the large number of luxury yachts, many with helipads!
Difficult to park a motorhome
We wanted to have a look around the city, but it was impossible to park a motorhome, so we had to take photos through the windows. Next, we headed for the famous beaches along the Emerald Coast, but we were very disappointed! It was poorly signposted down to the beaches and when we finally found our way down - then parking with a motorhome was effectively eliminated by barriers at a height of 2 metres ... We leave the Emerald Coast to others!

But! It's unbelievable, a luxury boat with a helipad!!!! How rich can you get? Guess it's the modern way to get ashore quickly if the boat is too big to dock. That is, instead of taking a small boat. What strange lives some people lead, it's like being on another planet.

Sad that you did not come down to the sea. I've been here a couple of times and it was really wonderful with fantastic water and nice beaches, but there are also in Corsica. I did not have a motorhome ... Understand that you are travelling further.

Ditte, you weren't there with your sailboat, were you? 🙂
Yes, motorhomes have their limitations, that's for sure.
Wondering if the super-rich people ever get out of the country?
bored with their lives?

No, it's just sick! Ok then, cool too. Imagine if Zlatan (I hope you know he's a Swedish footballer) would have such a yacht with a helicopter in the back to get to and from matches in his French Paris St. Germain or to the national team....
Oh, "caravans" like yours on the Emerald Coast - well, you realise that you are not welcome there. You certainly don't fit in with this opulence. I mean a medical doctor and her husband who own a construction company... that says it all.
You do realise that my comment is ironic - or at least I hope so. I almost bet that at least half of them come from a certain country in the East....

Inga M, yes it is another planet!!! Fascinating to see, but a bit unreal... to say the least!
Ditte, yes it was a bit sad, but just as you say, we saw other nice beaches in Corsica and will certainly see more nice beaches here in Sardinia too! So there is no need for us anyway 😉 😉
Ruth in Virginia, yes there are some limitations with motorhomes, that's true. But we still think the benefits far outweigh the limitations. We have to find other beaches!
BP, haha, we understand exactly... but I thought maybe I could get a "free pass" now as a doctor...? Maybe if Zlatan gets sick...???? 😉 (And yes, Peter makes sure that I have basic knowledge of the most important football players, but it is quite limited...;))

Mr Steve says:
"With or without helipad"? is a standard question when buying a boat down there.
If you're only moderately rich and can't afford a helicopter, you might still go for a helipad. Just to show off.
I increasingly understand the term 'filthy rich'.
Cheeky markings against motorhomes with barriers at a height of 2 metres. But you will soon find new beach strips. Because that's exactly what the Emerald Coast is. A strip of beach. Albeit fascinating.

Steve, yes it felt like helipads were a completely "normal" feature of the boats... crazy! Booms with height limitations exist from time to time - but here they were everywhere! 🙁

We're thinking of buying one of those boats. Surely they can't be that expensive? 😉

Maggan and Ingemar says:
We recognise that problem with barriers. The same with the parking problems, there are many cities that do not get any visits from us. 🙂
Seems like many of the rich are staying on the water anyway.
No that life is not for us we prefer the motorhome and the land hill, but preferably by water. 🙂 You will see very nice south and the islands seem interesting. Keep up the good work you will look like freshly baked gingerbread when you come home for Christmas 😀.

Poor people in such a boat, equipped with a helicopter. Then life must have lost both dreams and excitement.
