Porto-Vecchio in Corsica
Porto-Vecchio (City of Salt) is the third largest town in Corsica and a tourist town. The Romans have a lot of remains from here and lots of olive groves. There is the old town, the 16th century citadel, Bastion de France, Place de la République, Porte Genoise, small picturesque alleys, restaurants, bars and the large harbour and marina. Oranges and chestnuts are plentiful and the main food is wild boar and pork, the most famous of which is Figatelli, a smoked pig.
Nature conservation areas
Before we get to all the beautiful beaches, we need to mention two nature reserves: one is around the mountains of L'Ospedale where you can hike and discover mountain villages like Zonza and Levie. The other is the Îles Cerbicale (archipelago), the six islands off the coast south of Porto-Vecchio.
Beaches around Porto-Vecchio
There are lots of idyllic and some more famous beaches. We didn't get to all of them when we travelled around Corsica for a month, and there are more that we want to experience next time we come here. We have checked out the beaches and here is some information about what is around Porto-Vecchio.
Pinarello Beach is a beautiful beach located 30 minutes north of Porto-Vecchio.
Cala Rossa is closer with nice beach and resorts north of the city and takes 20 minutes.
Beaches Plage de Palombaggia
Palombaggia is located 20 minutes south of Porto-Vecchio. Plage de Palombaggia is the most popular beach, where you find the most people. Here we have been sunbathing and swimming a few days earlier, and this is where we start our walk to several beaches in a row. Plage de Palombaggia alone is three kilometres long, and it's a long walk with a few water breaks along the way. We simply turn right and walk along the shoreline, sometimes in sand and sometimes over rocks.
On some beaches, like Plage de Palombaggia, restaurants are crowded with sunbeds and tourists. On others, there is only sand and nature, and you are almost alone. But everywhere: this white sand and this turquoise water. And after lunch, the sun came out again! Where to find these beaches? Just south of Porto-Vecchio in Corsica.
Tamaricciu and Folacia
If you continue to walk along the seafront, you will come to two beaches called Tamaricciu and Folacia. Here it is almost empty. At least now, in June. We only see a few people swimming, and some of them take the opportunity to swim naked. After all, you are almost alone here. We also take the opportunity to swim, and above all we can't take our eyes (or the camera) off the sea. What a sea! What colours! Maybe paradise is here in Corsica?
Santa Giulia Beach with idyllic beach is located at the far south of Porto-Vecchio and Palombaggia. It is only 13 minutes from Porto-Vecchio thanks to the main road all the way.
Experiencing beaches in Corsica
We don't understand why more people don't go to Corsica. This is the Thailand of winter and many go to the coasts of Spain and struggle with all the tourists and miles of beaches. Corsica is truly a gem in Europe and so wild and beautiful. Thank you for letting me experience the best of all worlds.

Matts Torebring says:
If it was never winter, then we wouldn't need a (big) motorhome that can handle minus 40 degrees, but drive around as you do now, in a slightly smaller car and see everything as you do now. You must be having a lot of fun. Continue to have a good time.

BP, I always joke that we can use Peter's swimming trunks as a high-visibility vest if there is a crisis 😉.
Matts, we like to avoid minus 40 degrees when camping 😉 For our part, we feel that we do not want a larger car, with this size we think we can travel everywhere. There are pros and cons, depending on how and where you are travelling and so on. But aren't there smaller motorhomes designed for winter use?
Marina, there should be good hiking here! Both easier and more difficult I think.
Fantasy Dining, then I will check out your blog and read about Japan! 🙂

Saw that I entered as anonymous, a bit sad with such senders. Anyway, what beautiful beaches you find. Good with a campsite too. Greetings from Billinge GK!

Speaking of something completely different than beaches. I recently saw a report on Nyhetsmorgon about a new caravan park in Flaten, south of Stockholm. It was said to be Sweden's first bookable and most things seemed to be handled by the guests themselves without the help of staff, such as check-in and check-out via a vending machine. Probably not news to you as it has been in the works for seven years.

Blue water, white beaches and sun ...... what more could you want! Looks absolutely wonderful 🙂

Delicious! Lovely, enticing pictures! There are probably few places in Europe that can compete with both the turquoise sea, the chalk-white beaches and the beautiful nature. And so nice that several beaches are sparsely populated. I probably feel that it will be Corsica again. But, because there is such a thing. The sun is now not my friend and in Corsica you want to both swim sunbathe and snorkel and like to take the occasional boat trip.

But wow, Corsica is really my next "must" place in Europe, soooo beautiful. Are you tired of the beach life or can't get enough?

Solan, I know it can accidentally become "anonymous" sometimes. But much more fun to know that it is you who hear from you! 🙂 Have a good time in summer Sweden!
Ama de casa, Corsica has the most beautiful beaches we've ever seen!
Steve, great news! Automatic parking spaces are common in Germany and France for example, but not so common in Sweden....
Maggan and Ingemar, Corsica is truly amazing!
Ditte, I certainly understand your "but". You can of course seek shade, but it is difficult to avoid the sun completely and as you say, nice down boat trips and such!
Marie, you just have to go here! We haven't got bored yet 😉
