The advantage of a motorhome is that you are not restricted to charter destinations or places where there are hotels. Today, we started the journey south from Buggerru, travelling on breathtakingly beautiful roads through the mountains, with many impressive views of the sea.
Portu Cauli beach
Everywhere there are turn-offs to different beaches, and it's hard to know which one to choose. We went down to a beach called Portu Cauli beach. We were not alone, so to speak! We thought, "Oh dear, the high season is here!", but the crowds may also have been due to the fact that it was Sunday. Everyone on the beach spoke Italian and many greeted each other recognisably, so it was probably mostly local tourists...
Fricamping
We thought we wanted to find a beach with fewer people, where we might also be able to fricamp. What could be better than a tiny dirt road with an insignificant sign to a "spaggia" (beach)? Sure, we hesitated to drive in with the campervan... but then we decided to give it a go!
We had to fold in our mirrors and sneak down through the bush, but eventually we found our way down to a very special sandy beach on a long spit of land. Locals come here to kite surf, fish, collect vongole mussels or perhaps sunbathe and swim. We don't have to crowd here... and tonight we'll probably be alone in the middle of nature!

How nice to find your own "hilltop". But Sundays in these parts mean a lot of people and they become more numerous the closer you get to August. Italy in August is quite crowded... But it is possible to find your gems. And you've just done it.
Great pictures and views!

It is so much fun to follow your journey.
Exciting, and you're not afraid to take the back roads either,
and you found your own little pitch.
So cosy.
Tomorrow we're going on a little tour of northern Norway!!!!

1. Compared to Corsica, these beautiful mountain roads in Sardinia even have real guardrails. Yiipphhiieeee!
2. Now you have found your own paradise again. Empty. Perfect! If the fishermen don't want to take their vongoles home with them, maybe you can buy them and make a divine pasta. Love vongoles:-)
3. This post reminds me of our own adventures - in a rental car, but still - where we ended up "in the middle of nowhere" near St Ives in the south of England. But I managed to scrape my rear view mirror against a stone wall on the way down to a beach without a single person.
4. love to follow your adventures:-)
5. What about wifi down there? Even that seems to exist. A paradise:-))))

Matts, there are more and more people as we approach the high season. And then the locals come to the beaches on weekends...
Ditte, we understand that there will be more people in August... we'll see how we handle it 😉.
Rantamor, wonderful that there will be a trip to Northern Norway! I will of course look into the blog and follow!
Anja, isn't that nice? "Veramente"...?
BP,
1) Absolutely correct observation!
2) We also love vongole! Let's see if we can get some...
3) It sounds like an exciting adventure! Too bad about the rear-view mirror... it's often the ones that are in the most trouble...
4) Great to hear! 🙂
5) We don't have wifi here. We have sim cards with internet in the mobile phones and can use the phones as modems for the computers...

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
You are in holiday times in Sardinia must be like being in Bohuslän that time.
If you go out on small undiscovered roads, you get some foliage with you. Remember that we came out on a small road and then it was a road underpass Birgitta had to go out and check heard how the antenna scratched the roof when we went through.
It is exciting to follow you on your journey. Discovering new places

I have never liked being crowded on a beach, we had also turned round. What a beach you came to, wow.

Ama de casa says:
Oooo... Crowded... But when there are no cliffs or super high roadsides, it's not quite as scary.

Nisse, glad you're following along! Yes, of course there will be some foliage that follows on such roads and sometimes you have to look out so you don't see the SL prices anywhere...
JoY, crowds on the beach are no fun, but the closer we get to the high season, the harder it is to avoid... 😉.
Ama de casa, I can agree with that. Now it was mostly scratches we tried to avoid... as best we could 😉.

We also see a lot of tourists and especially motorhomes dominate here at the Norwegian Hummelfjellet - think more than we are out ? just like you and them where you are ??

Nicely done! ? we had broken plastic covers on both the front and back of the awning when we came home from our trip. The rear one was smashed against a pine tree in a crowded campsite in the Algarve and the front one in a roadside alley in Normandy. What a hassle to fix the car at home?
