Today we have continued to drive around Sicily, from Marsala on the west coast of Sicily and south along the coast. Along the way to Mazara del Vallo we found many beautiful little beaches, and we would have loved to have camped there - if only we could have got the campervan down! The roads down to the beaches are narrow, full of large potholes and incredibly steep.
Around Sicily
Sometimes it's easy to find somewhere to stay overnight, and sometimes it's difficult. This time we had planned to fricampa, but it was easier said than done. Many of the roads down to the beaches were far too steep for us to drive there with the campervan.
In other places, it felt like you were on private property, no matter what you did. We drove much further than we had originally intended? Where could we stop for the night?
San Giorgio car park
We had to continue for longer than expected, but eventually found our way down to the beach on a small major road. We had actually planned to go camping, but what did we find here? Well, a caravan park for motorhomes! We chose to drive into the site, which is right next to the beach. Here we pay 18 euro/day including toilet, shower and filling/emptying of tanks.
It's good that there are simple places like this, so that you don't have to stay at the expensive campsites all the time during the high season! Here you stand in a quiet place with lots of trees, right next to a nice beach. The address is Giorgio 153, Agrigento and you have to go down the small roads along the coast to get here.

Nice to be able to follow your journey in Sicily on the map. I see that there are impressive viaducts.

I understand that you are playing it safe. Strangely enough, your description of the small roads reminds me of Cornwall in England, where we hardly dared to drive down in a car and trembled before a possible meeting as it was also very steep. 180 kronor sounds really quite ok. I mean, for that money you hardly get a lunch for two people in Stockholm anymore. You always have to put it in perspective;-)
Oh that viaduct that you show I am totally in love with:-)

I can tell you that you chose the right summer to leave Sweden.
It's beautiful, of course, but it's also characterised by low pressure.
Not fun for those who want to sunbathe and swim!
Keep up the good work!

Steve, we went over several viaducts in this area.
BP, in the low season you get much more for your money. Then we have a discount card and get nice campsites for 16 euros. But now in the high season the campsites cost 30-40 euros/day - or much more. The pitches are also cheaper in the low season. But now in high season this is an ok price we think.
Lennart, we understand that the summer in Sweden is miserable. Really sad! Not fun for e.g. families with children who have planned a summer in Sweden...

You are close to Agrigento, I see, and there are some interesting temples there.

Nice that you show the map where you drove. I probably wouldn't have tried to drive down a steep slope and not know if you can get back up.
I will try to learn how to make such a map, but so far I have not succeeded!
Have a nice trip.
Hugs from rain with +17 degrees

Znogge, thanks for the tips! We will probably go to Agrigento tomorrow!
Nils-Åke, thank you very much! We (strangely enough) do not have coordinates on the GPS, but I saw that there was a campsite in Bordatlas. Maybe the same?
Well, I just make it very simple. I photograph a map image on Google maps (printscreen) and put it in PowerPoint where I cut it. Then I save it as an image and open it in Paint. There you can draw and make arrows.

It's great to see the map. Yesterday I pulled out my old atlas to see where you were.
Understand that you are avoiding the narrow and unsafe roads. Nice that you have now found a good place at a good price and close to the beach and sea. Fans at least a little more ...
