We are now at Camping Drepanos, just outside Igoumenitsa in Greece. This is a relaxed and shady campsite on a nice sandy beach. We are relaxing after a night on the ferry from Italy.
Ferry from Italy to Greece
We came with the ferry to Igoumenitsa at 04:30 in the morning. It was pitch black outside, we were tired after a night on a hard boat floor and the fridge was empty because you have to switch off the gas during the ferry ride. At such times it is nice to drive straight to a campsite! We followed the road signs to Drepanos beach, which is just north of Igoumenitsa, to find camping Drepanos.
Arriving in the middle of the night
We drove through Igoumenitsa at 04:40 in the morning, and we have to say that this seems to be a city that never sleeps! Several of the bars and outdoor cafes were still busy, and in other places the staff were walking around with brooms. This was a city that felt far from sleepy, even though it was pitch black outside.
We found camping Drepanos with no problem and were prepared to wait for them to open in the morning, but we didn't have to! We were let in straight away and helped to find a spot in the dark. We guess they are quite used to guests coming at odd times of the day at this campsite.
Camping Drepanos
Camping Drepanos is nicely situated on the beach and is a great place to rest after the somewhat strenuous ferry journey. The campsite has WiFi included in the price (23 euros/day) and helpful staff who speak English. There is also a restaurant, a beach bar and a small shop.
All this service is great right now as our fridge is calmly recovering from the ferry trip when it was completely shut down. We have learnt that it takes a while for the fridge to recover in the heat. While the fridge is working its way back to its former self, we take it easy at the motorhome and on the beach.

Looks incredibly nice! Oh the Greeks are incredibly nice people who also often speak excellent English, which cannot be said about Spaniards and Italians. Hope the fridge and you recover soon;-)

Looks nice.
Read that you are thinking of going to Albania. Found a site, "The Blonde Gypsy",
writing about "15 things you should know about Albania". She was
only in Tirana but has comments that may be of interest to you.
You learn a lot by reading blogs. 🙂

Nice that you arrived and found a good campsite with a nice location and nice staff. And good that many speak English because otherwise the Greek is difficult to understand. It is not possible to derive the words....
Enjoy and take the opportunity to rest both yourselves and your fridge.

BP, yes the beach is nice, and not too crowded either! The Greeks we have met so far (staff and neighbours) have been very nice and helpful! Everyone (except the campsite maid) has also spoken excellent English. So yes, we are positive!
Ruth in Virginia, thank you so much for the tip! I googled it and found it immediately. Will read now! 🙂
Ditte, can agree with you about the language! When it comes to French / Spanish / Italian, I always understand a little, but here in Greece it feels difficult ...

Nilla, yes, from here we are travelling slowly upwards, but we have three months to explore the countries along the way. Yes, a fantastic trip it is! Feels unreal sometimes, at the same time as it becomes an everyday life this too 😉 .

Only once have we booked a place on a campsite. It was in Greece, outside Athens. We knew when we were going to get there, and thought it might be full, because it wasn't that big.
Emailed and booked and the answer came.
Whether we really had a booked place when we got there, we don't really know. Because the answer we got on the emails was in Greek... Haha! But we got a place anyway 🙂
Looks nice there!

What a lovely place to land after the ferry crossing. All I have to do is read about you being in Greece and I'm hooked.
