Giardini Naxos, located right next to Taormina, is a popular seaside resort in Sicily. In fact, several readers have written that they have been here, and it seems that Fritidsresor organises charters here.

Giardini Naxos in Sicily
Giardini-Naxos is a small town located just next door to Taormina, in the metropolitan area of Messina in Sicily. You can get here from southern Italy, for example, or from Palermo or Syracuse in Sicily.
Sun and bathing in Giardini Naxos
There are many hotels along the coast and the beach is crowded. The part of the beach that we tried does not get many plus points from us though ... far too rocky and gravel. It is all the more fascinating to read about the sun holidays of the ancient Greeks more than 2000 years ago!
Solar holidays in the time of the ancient Greeks
Even the ancient Greeks used to go on sunshine holidays. In ancient times, the bourgeoisie of Syracuse went to Taormina for sun and bathing holidays. I wonder what the beaches looked like back then? The ancient Greeks may not have worn bikinis, but if you thought the bikini came along in the 50s, you're wrong!
In a villa in the Sicilian town of Piazza Armerina, lots of 4th century mosaics have been found. Here you can see a whole bunch of 'bikini girls' practising different sports.
Motorhome parking space in Giardini Naxos
In Giardini Naxos there are several parking spaces and we chose to park at Aurora Parking. This place is within walking distance to the beach and you are also close to the bus that takes you up to Taormina. We paid 20 euro/day and the service was ok, although we were very crowded. (No safety distances here not!) Unfortunately, WiFi did not work, although it was supposedly available. Everything goes and it was only one day and we stood at the far end if something happens.

Yes, the beach doesn't look good. Not very clean either.
These bikini girls were fun to watch. It looks like their bikinis were knitted as well. Glad you got to borrow the picture. Now you don't have to be cultural yourself - on site that is;-)

No, that beach isn't great, but I think there's another one in the other direction? Which car park are you standing on? Edens parking where you have HBK discount! And his nephew is married to a girl who comes/lived in Sweden!

Ruth in Virginia, haha who knows? And certainly there are other things to see and experience in Taormina. Report comes today!
Marina, I find it so fascinating to try to understand how people lived so long ago!
BP, haha, it was convenient to "avoid" making that trip too, even though it actually looked interesting! (So hot so CI was not so keen to leave the coast)
Anette, very possible! We are at Aurora Parking. We were advised about Eden, but we had already agreed with our friend who we would meet today about Aurora, so it became it anyway. Interesting to hear about the Sweden connection at Eden!

Exciting about Etna, I've always wanted to see it. Can you visit it closer or is it too active? Speaking of pebble beach, I like it as long as you have a sunbed. You don't bring in any sand where you live and the sea is usually clear and blue. However, the beach looks a bit packed. 🙂

Marie, you can visit Etna from a closer distance! There are sightseeing buses that we have seen and I think you can also climb the volcano (I guess they have measurements that tell you if something is going on?). But we have not found out more about different possibilities. Right now it is August and quite a lot of people everywhere. If you choose another month, you probably get more space! 😉
