Camping at Lake Ohrid in Albania. Located in eastern Albania on the border with North Macedonia, Lake Ohrid is the seventh deepest lake in Europe. The border between North Macedonia and Albania runs right through the lake, with Albania having the smaller part. Today we take you to the cosy little village of Kisha Lin and to a campsite on Lake Ohrid in Albania.

Lake Ohrid in Albania - deep and old
Lake Ohrid is 289 metres deep, making it the seventh deepest lake in Europe. But this lake is not only very deep but also very old. It was formed 2-4 million years ago, making it one of the oldest lakes in the world, along with Lake Tanganyika, the Caspian Sea and Lake Baikal.
An old-fashioned town
We arrived in the early evening and took the first exit road down to Lake Ohrid in Albania. We entered a small, small village called Kisha Lin and it was really like being thrown a few hundred years back in time. Here the houses were small and old, the ladies sat on the steps outside their houses and when we would walk back through the village we met the sheep, goats, cows and donkeys who were on their way home ...
Funnily enough, there was also a modern small hotel with an outdoor terrace with great views of the lake. So there was a beer before we continued to find a place for the night.
Camping at Lake Ohrid
We drove a little bit south along the lake, and soon there was a sign with "Camping Erlin". We didn't see if there really was a campsite at the end of the little road, but we took a chance! Judge our surprise when we arrived at an incredibly modern, new and well-maintained place with a large restaurant and bar right on the water, a small stage, sun loungers and a green and well-kept campsite with electricity, water and new fresh toilets and showers.
We had a really good dinner with grilled fish from the lake and got great service. At the restaurant there was a small party celebrating a birthday. Camping Erlin at Lake Ohrid and we were the only guests at the restaurant. 10 euro/day including electricity and WiFi it costs at Erlin camping. A visit here is highly recommended!
Dinner at a campsite on Lake Ohrid
At the campsite we had dinner with grilled fish, crispy potatoes, Greek salad, grilled bread and white wine. (Yes, I got tired of my hair and asked Peter to shave it off. Great "haircut"! But don't worry too much if you don't like it - I'm sure it will grow back at some point!)

What a wonderful feeling to find such a gem for your dinner. The positively unexpected is always a joy to behold.
I understand that you think the hairstyle is nice. In addition, you also fit in that hairstyle, I think.

It's a nice attitude to have in an age obsessed with appearance. "The hair grows back". It is a comfort to your Peter that you look as good as ever. Good luck at the beautiful lake in Albania and happy travelling.

The hairstyle was very nice too! 🙂

I don't think many people would fit that hairstyle, but you actually do. And how nice to not have to deal with hairstyle foam, spray, hair dryer, straightener and all sorts of things and a hair that still does what it wants. Now you have full control over the hairstyle!!!

Lennart says:
Now you have the same hairstyle as me, I say!
Live well!

Thanks for really nice blogging! Albania seems amazing in so many ways! It is nice to see that the country seems to be slowly rising and that there are opportunities for entrepreneurship and faith in the future. Few countries around the Mediterranean seem to be able to compete with Albania's beautiful landscape.

Åsa, thank you from both of us! 🙂
Steve, yes it's always more fun when you don't expect something special, but randomly find it! 🙂
Annar, Peter is not so obsessed with hair luckily! 😉
Anja, yes, Albania has become one of my favourite countries! 🙂
Helena, thank you so much! And yes, it's fun to find unexpected gems!
Birgitta in Umeå, it was a nice evening yesterday. Easy to have fun in Albania! 🙂
Anita, thank you! Yes, it's actually fantastically nice to not have to deal with that. I have never liked to deal with my hair 😉.
Lennart, haha, yes the previous site owner thought I had an Albanian hairstyle, but it's probably only the Albanian men who have that 😉 It's practical anyway! 🙂
Madelene, thank you so much for your comment! Albania has it big tough in many ways, but you also see how everything is growing, and it feels so positive! The landscape is very beautiful in many places!

The lake and these rocks are incredibly beautiful! Oh, I see that you have now got away from the tourist part of Albania, and I don't just mean the sheep and goats on the road but the dilapidated house as well. I think such things are charming as you know.
The new hairstyle - well, it grows back, as you say. Spontaneously I think of two things:
1. put a sun hat on your head to avoid burning yourself.
2. Good thing you don't like football. Because otherwise I would probably recommend not revealing which team you support. You look like a cute little English football hooligan;-)

Matts, we are also thinking about that... It will not be easy. But we have to! 😉
Solan, very nice in the heat! 😉
BP, it's interesting to see a bit more than the "tourist routes" (although nothing is perfectly organised there either)! Haha, maybe it is lucky that I do not understand which team I support then 😉.
Johanna in Skåne, thank you! 🙂 And nice to see that you look in here! Hope all is well!

So beautiful! And imagine, a campsite that seemed made for your arrival. Understand that Corsica and Sardinia now have to fight to stay on the top list. But there is some left....
The food looked so delicious and with that view too!
Practical hairstyle and it's good for economy cuts....Also, you look good in it.
26 August 2015 - 18:48
admin says:
Ditte, thank you! Albania has climbed up the top list, but Corsica and Sardinia are probably still there too. This part of the world feels a little more "undiscovered" (by Swedes), the people are so nice and then you get so much for the money, but Corsica and Sardinia are still two very beautiful islands 🙂.
