Camping Naluka - cosy campsite in the Bay of Kotor

For two days we have been hanging out at a nice campsite in the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. When driving around the Bay of Kotor you see quite a few camping signs, but most "campsites" are private gardens with such steep driveways that it can't even be considered, unless you are a backpacker with a tent. But eventually we found camping Naluka in Morinj.

Camping Naluka

When we arrived at the Naluka campsite, it was actually in full. Here was a group of 18 French motorhomes travelling together! When they had just moved (all at once - imagine meeting them on the narrow roads here!) we could choose which site we wanted. Otherwise, this is a popular campsite, and even though it's September, new motorhomes, caravans and tents are constantly arriving.

We chose a spot by the small river - every now and then small boats pass by.

Small beach and beach bar

There are excellent services at the campsite and the price of €20/day includes both electricity and free WiFi. Within a short walk there is a shop, restaurant and a charming little beach.

We're not big fans of huge sandy beaches with rows of sunbeds, but small places like this are nice. There is a small gravel beach and a small beach bar. The sea water is warm, but mixes here and there with the cool water from the river - refreshing!

From Montenegro to Croatia

When we felt ready at camping Naluka in Montenegro, it was time to leave for Croatia. The morning in Montenegro started well. At 8:15 the bread truck came as usual to the campsite in Montenegro with fresh bread. Shortly thereafter, a guy came by and sold freshly picked raspberries. Before we left, the owner gave us a bottle of red wine. And when we drove a little bit, we saw some guys sitting on the beach selling fresh mussels ...

Montenegro musslor

The blue mussels cost €2/kilo and the 'other' (absolutely huge) mussels cost €12/kilo. We were naturally curious and bought two kilos of the former and one kilo of the latter. We asked what they were called and got the answer "Each village have a different name for them".

After this little shopping spree, we headed for the border with Croatia, with our sights set on Dubrovnik. In a way, it was nice that Montenegro is located between Albania and Croatia, so that you can gradually get used to modernity.

In Albania there are donkeys, horse-drawn carts and cows everywhere, but virtually no supermarkets. In Montenegro, there are certainly large supermarkets, but you can tell it's a corrupt country with black money, with everything from rusty old caravans to a record number of millionaires.

Croatia appears, as soon as you cross the border, as a very modern and well-functioning country. The roads are nice, the signage is good, it is clean and tidy and the campsite we arrive at is very modern (and expensive).

The roads in Croatia are very nice - below you can see Dubrovnik!
