Lake Shkodra Resort - camping on Lake Shkodra. If you're worried about camping in Albania being too uncomfortable or adventurous, we'd like to tell you that there are several nice campsites, with high standards.
There is a campsite in Shkodra located on Lake Shkodra in northern Albania, on the border with Montenegro. The highest mountain Jezerca towers into the sky and below it is a nice campsite in Shkodra in untouched nature, called Lake Shkodra Resort.

Lake Shkoder
Half of Lake Shkoder is on Albanian soil, flowing into the Adriatic Sea via the Buna River, and the other half belongs to Montenegro. The feeling you get from being here is that it is so unspoilt, and it is so damn beautiful.
We as tourists should be thankful that the country was completely closed until 1991, when communism fell. Thanks to this, nature has not been destroyed by tourism and one hopes that they can keep it that way in the future. How often do you get to see the really old traditions of putting in nets from a boat, and then there are 8-10 men with enormously long ropes attached to the nets and pulling these together towards land. Really cool to watch!
High standard camping
When we rolled in here yesterday at Lake Shkodra Resort, we found that it was the first time in Albania we saw a campsite with a reception. In Albania, it is otherwise common for the campsites to be built around a restaurant - and then it is in the restaurant that you pay and ask for help. This resort is probably one of the finer campsites in Albania.
Camping at Lake Shkoder in Albania
Lake Shkodra Resort is beautifully situated on the shores of Lake Shkodra and offers camping, lodge accommodation or glamorous camping in large exclusive tents. There are fresh service buildings, WiFi, a restaurant and bar, reception and a tiny shop. If you want, you can have your clothes washed and you can hire a bike, canoe or stand-up paddle board.
It is also possible to book various excursions, with or without accommodation. We have not tried these, but several of them sounded interesting. Normally we are a bit worried about "resorts" as they can be expensive, but in Albania you never have to worry about the price. We pay 14 euros/day including electricity and WiFi here.
Motorhomes at Lake Shkodra Resort
Many people camp with tents on the large campsite, but we also have a small group of motorhomes here. The other cars come from Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland and Holland. Shortly after us, two real (French registered) adventure cars rolled in.

We have been travelling in Albania by motorhome for about three weeks, and have had time to experience both different campsites and many beautiful places. In addition to Lake Shkoder in Albania, it is nice at Lake Ohrid, and almost everywhere along the coast. It looks really nice there. One of the best sites you have had, I think - seen on the computer, that is. I also like that little "boardwalk" in trees.

It's so beautiful, but have you started to feel the effects of autumn yet? It looks a bit greyer and hazier, but I'm sure you're early. Be well

Rolle and Carina, it is a very nice place. Recommended!
Helena, Albania is probably the cheapest country in Europe 🙂 .
BP, yes, this is probably one of the nicer places. Then others have been personal and nice in that way.
Matts, I took the photos quite late in the evening, hence the "twilight". When we were in Macedonia it was really cool at night. Here it is warm again, but perhaps it is noticeable that we are slowly leaving the most intense summer.

There's something about adventure cars. I call all of them Paris-Dakar, that's where I first saw them on TV...I imagine they are found in some odd countries. I can't believe that some parts of Albania are so good for us mobile people...it's all about shedding your prejudices...thanks for that, Freedom 🙂.

Steve, haha, right?
Della, we have really been pleasantly surprised! 🙂
Ama de casa, always good prices in Albania ðŸ™'
Across the world, there are many countries to discover! Albania is perfect for us with a motorhome!
Solan, we are also a bit fascinated by these "adventure cars". You can see them here and there, but yes, maybe a little more often when travelling off the beaten track! Albania is great for travelling with a motorhome! There are campsites everywhere, although most of them are a bit simpler than this one.

Hi, how lovely! Looks nice and the prices seem to be reasonable.
Albania is not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of travelling around. But you learn something new every day. 🙂

Ninni, Henrik and Knasen, Albania is definitely a destination to consider! Beautiful nature, friendly people, crazy cheap and reasonably good campsites 🙂.

Hi my friends I am following you and I am glad that you write so well about Albania there is really good maybe you can find a personal guide but if you have the possibility to go to the mountain I think there are campsites there so have a good time.

I could really imagine that campsite!
Otherwise, I'm probably a bit too "cowardly" for Albania (yet....)!
Have fun in the sun 🙂

Ditte says:
What a beautiful place! And it feels almost unreal that Albania, which according to what one reads, is considered one of Europe's poorest countries, whatever that means...., has it so well organised with both camping, swimming, beaches, restaurants and other things needed for tourists to feel welcome. The beautiful nature comes on the purchase.
But do you need a visa for Albania? I forgot...
07 September 2015 - 16:25
admin says:
Shefik, we always write honestly about all the places we visit. Albania has surprised positively and we have almost exclusively positive experiences from here so then it becomes positive. Hope we can inspire more people to go here 🙂.
Frankie & Co, it's always a bit easier to live in countries where not everything is super expensive! 🙂
Nilla, there is really nothing to worry about! We feel safer here than in Sweden 🙂 People are incredibly friendly and there are campsites everywhere (although some are a bit simpler than this resort).
Ditte, you don't need a visa! Just a passport and green card (if you have your car with you). We crossed the borders easily in about 10 minutes. It is clear that the country is much poorer than e.g. Sweden, but this is not a problem for tourists. There are restaurants and campsites everywhere and everyone is very hospitable and helpful. English is also better than in Italy, France and Spain, for example. The selection in the supermarkets is much poorer, but this is not a major problem. Overall, it is easy to be a tourist here!
