"Zlatni Rat" means "Golden cape" and is a beach in the small village of Bol, on the island of Brac in Croatia. The beach is repeatedly included in various lists of beautiful beaches, and we can see why!
Table of contents
Zlatni Rat in Croatia
Zlatni Rat is located on the south side of the Island of Brac in Croatia, at the small the village of Bol. The centre of Bol is within walking distance, along a nice promenade.
One of the most beautiful beaches in the world?
The Zlatni Rat beach has been recognised as the best beach in Croatia according to the Lonely Planet, as the third best beach in Europe according to European Best Destinations and as one of 10 great beaches in the world according to Tuoropia. We live at walking distance from the beach right now, so when we got 21 plus degrees and bright sunshine today - where do you think we went ...?
The 'Golden Cape'
It is not difficult to understand how Zlatni Rat got its name. The beach, covered in light-coloured pebbles, extends like a long tongue into the sea. The outermost tip, which often slopes gently to the west, can in certain weather conditions be angled to the east.
All in all, Zlatni Rat is 634 metres of beach, surrounded by turquoise blue water and intensely green pine trees. This is a very beautiful beach - and its particular shape is perhaps even better seen in photos taken from the air.
Zlatni Rat at different times of the year
We can only imagine what it looks like here in the summer. Everywhere there are boarded-up stalls selling ice cream, fruit drinks and pancakes. The sunbeds, which are now free for anyone to borrow, apparently cost a fortune to rent during the high season. We're guessing that August is the perfect swimming season (and packed with tourists). The average temperature on Brac is 28 degrees in the air and 25 degrees in the water.
Now in October, visiting Zlatni Rat is more of a nature experience - but it's still great for sunbathing and swimming! The average temperature on Brac in October is 18 degrees in the air and 20 degrees in the water. Today we had a lovely 21 degrees and brilliant sunshine. We were far from alone in enjoying the sun on Zlatni Rat, but the 634 metres of beach gave plenty of room for everyone if you say so ...!
Wedding photography at Zlatni Rat
Suddenly, when we were sunbathing at our best, a wedding party came to take pictures at the end of the headland. Peter couldn't resist snapping some photos, and I like them so much that you'll see some of them here on the blog too!
Whether Zlatni Rat is the most beautiful beach in the world remains to be seen, but it is certainly a very special and scenic place. Have you been here and what did you think? Do you have any other favourite beach that you would like to list among the best in the world?

BP says:
WOW! I like that beach. Scenic is probably the most appropriate word I think. The beach reminds me of Hel in Poland actually.
Not sure if I have a favourite beach, but I think the beach between Sopot and Gdynia is also very scenic.
Oh what nice weather you have! Here we have had our first real autumn day with drizzle and rain all day. Nothing to look forward to, I can say;-)
Also, I have to say that Peter should win an award for that amazing picture with the fluttering wedding dress. The photo is an absolute dream!

Krisztina says:
Very nice! How nice that it is still so warm that you can swim in the lovely water. Yes, that picture with the bride is fantastically successful!

Isn't that nice!
Croatia is a wonderful country!
That's it!

Ditte says:
A lovely beach for sure! And a beautiful setting! And nice to be here now "off season". I can imagine that it will be crowded on the beach in the summer.
Really nice pictures and extra fun with weddings. Here Peter has really captured "it".
In terms of beautiful beaches in the world, I think of some in Fiji first and foremost - superior to anything else I've seen. The Maldives, Sri Lanka, Puh Quock in Vietnam and even the Philippines have made great beaches. And even in Thailand and Cambodia I've come across wonderful beaches.
I would love to visit your beach here in Croatia, for sure.

BP, we like Hel in Poland too! Funny that you like the picture with the wedding dress! And... now we are not so keen on going home to Sweden... 😉.
Krisztina, yes, the water temperature is good, so if it's sunny and nice it's great for swimming!
Lennart, we like Croatia too, we must say!
Ditte, many places are nice off season! Fiji sounds fantastic! Otherwise, I can agree that there are many nice beaches in Asia. Funny that you like the picture! 🙂
Rolle and Carina, the water is incredibly clear!

WOW how good it looks:-) I would like to be on that beach right now instead of being in cold, dark autumn Denmark. Nice to see and read that you are enjoying it, keep it up 🙂.

Understand that you went to the beach when the weather was so nice and the beach looks nice too. Well captured Peter with that picture.

Inga M says:
What incredibly beautiful wedding cards! The windswept dress was great, I guess it was chosen just for this moment! Clever of you to return to the sun and heat to get some of it now that the journey home is inevitably approaching. And there is no heat here. The beach looks nice and very shallow I guess judging by the long jetty. Have fun now in the sun!

So beautiful! Isn't that where they filmed the Christmas calendar that ran 1-3 years ago? It was not so good, so maybe no one remembers it? 🙂 Other beautiful beaches, the Caribbean of course, New Zealand, Palawan, Mexico...?

Lars, the water is really incredibly clear here!
Ontripdk, we understand that it's autumn in Scandinavia now! We're enjoying it while it lasts down here!
JoY, yes, it is important to take advantage now at the end of the season! 🙂
BP, yes in that area you would easily beat me on the fingers! I prefer not to choose sports issues in TP, so to speak 😉.
Inga M, glad you like the photo of the bride! It was really taken at the right moment! Yes, it is the end of the season now, and it is colder in northern Croatia. We checked the weather reports carefully and then decided to turn back a bit 😉.
Marie, how nice that you knew about the Christmas calendar! I had no idea, but now I have read both your post and the article on Vagabond. Really fun to know! We still have the Caribbean and Mexico on our list, sounds interesting! 🙂
Steve, yes, you have to take the opportunity to strain and swim now! It's the last chance here on Brac, we guess 😉.

Deciree, thank you so much for the nice praise! Peter took the wedding photos (with my camera) and I took the others. For the most part, they are my photos on the blog and Peter's on Instagram.
My camera: Nikon system camera with lens 18-200
Peter's camera: Samsung system camera, Galaxy NX with three different lenses, including macro.
We take a lot of photos and experiment a lot. Sometimes we take 100 pictures each in a day 😉 .

Wow, so fantastically beautiful! And the wedding photo with the wind in the dress is magical!
The beach I think of immediately when it comes to favourite beaches is Copacabana in Rio on a Sunday. Full of samba dancing happy people - a great experience!

I understand that. What a wonderful beach! AND what water! Understand that there was a bath there. The beach looks wonderfully deserted. The nature looks really nice.
What fun that there was a bridal party too, of course you take pictures then!

Wonderfully beautiful pictures and the beach looks really delicious !
One of our absolute favourite beaches is on the island of St. Thomas, an island in the US Virgin Islands archipelago in the Caribbean, part of the United States.
The beach is called Magens Bay and was ranked in the 80s as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world and is just as beautiful today!

Came into this blog by pure coincidence but can say that we are here in Bol, Brac now and my god what an experience. The average temperature this week we have been here has been around 35 degrees sometimes even more. And Zlatni Rat there are no words for. Absolutely a must if you go to Croatia!!!
