Yep it's true, today we bought a second hand car! We are in Croatia, but we need a car when we come home to Sweden. Now we have received help from friends to buy a car and it is waiting for us in Sweden.
Why have we bought a car now?
We sold our old car before we set off on our journey. the long journey around Europe. In this way we have avoided many extra expenses during the year, such as insurance and parking fees. When we get home, the motorhome will be put into winter storage and we have (for once) rented indoor storage for it.
Our friends in Arboga have fixed the storage (in their area) and to get from there back to Stockholm we need ... yes, a car! Our fantastic friends in Arboga have been kind enough to help us not only with winter storage for the campervan, but also with buying (and test driving!) this new car for us.
Buying a second-hand car
We always buy used cars. New cars cost a fortune and you can often get quite nice second-hand cars at a decent price. The car we have bought is a Renault Clio from 2005 with an engine heater, and we had to pay 25,000 SEK. Now we hope that it will be nice to us! By the way, Peter has already started working on FREEDOM texts that he wants to put on the car... Do you usually buy new or used cars?

Private car always used, motorhome also used but in the company mostly new.
Tut, tut?

Congratulations! What a great car and at a great price!
We no longer have a car because we live in the centre of town but the Golf was taken over by daughter H who commutes daily between Nacka and Huvudsta. Garage in town is expensive and so necessary....And when the car has gone 400 miles in a year, it is not needed. We can borrow the Golf when needed and otherwise we can rent.
I have bought a new car, a Golf, when it just came out. But it was a "Monday sex". Then there have been a few lightly used cars and that has worked really well.
And ideally, we have shopped 'privately'.

It's good to have friends like that to help you out when you're away!
Clion looked very nice as well 🙂 .
The car we drive is a second-hand Audi which is nice!
We bought our 3rd motorhome brand new in 2011.
Have a good time and enjoy ...... Have a nice weekend 🙂.

Can you really buy a good used car for so little money? We ourselves, with perhaps one exception, have been buying second-hand cars for the last 35 years. All five motorhomes we've had have been bought new.

How lucky you are to have friends who fix for you. 🙂
We bought a second-hand car in Germany on the way home in spring 2014.
It was a 2010 Ford Focus for 60,000. We are very happy with it.

Frankie & Co, glad that more people are buying second-hand! 🙂
Ditte, a car is certainly unnecessary if you use it so rarely. Then it becomes an unnecessarily large cost. Better to take a taxi then on occasion! Peter needs a car for work, but we rarely drive in the city centre.
Rolle and Carina, yes, but isn't it? Very nice to have friends who can help now that we are abroad.
Matts, we have bought even cheaper cars before, Chrysler, they have been good but used more petrol. It remains to be seen what happens with this one, but it seems good!
Nils-Åke, great to hear how everyone is doing!
Maggan and Ingemar, very nice right now to have friends who can help us. Nice to hear that you are happy with the car you bought! 🙂
BP, thank you! Haha, it was a fun and good name! But it feels like it has already begun to be called mini-Freedom here 😉 And then our used car is newer than your "new" 😉.

Congratulations on the Renault! Oh what a great prize! Since you named both the houseboat and the motorhome, you now have to find a really good name for the Renault as well. Since it is a Clio, Ju Cleo(-patra) is closest to hand;-)
As for cars, we actually buy new cars now. Having said that, I can say that we bought Tintin (Peugeot 206) new in November 1998. We are still driving it. But it is time for a new one soon. Tintin makes nasty noises from the gearbox ...

Wrong-wrong-wrong-wrong...(if you know that tune: "sy-sy-sy-sy-sy" from a Swedish comedy series...) You don't need a car in Stockholm... In our area there are such queues after the autumn holidays, so the buses - OUR buses - don't arrive 🙁 . I know you live a bit from the metro, but it's good training with your uphill walk from the boat, right? ;-). By the way, it will be great fun to see a small blog film with overpacking from the large motorhome to the new "Gold Arrow". Hihi!!!

They are good friends who even trusted you to buy a second-hand car. It looks really nice.
A new car drops dramatically in price the moment you leave the dealership, so it's definitely wiser to buy a used one. Really good used ones are not easy to find, but it can be done. Our current Jeep Patriot is a good example of this.
When I was young, it would always be new, but you get wiser with age.

What a nice car at a very good price! 🙂
We have bought both new and second-hand cars. The last one we bought new in 2006 when we needed one with more cargo space to bring more of our belongings to Spain. It has run like clockwork, but was a bit on the wane when we thought it was starting to struggle. Now it has come to grace again and received an apology when we know that it had only received a nail in the foot 🙂.

Always wanted cars. But now we only have a motorhome. The first Karmann Gipsy we bought second-hand...had gone 75 kilometres. We had it for 25 years and rolled 34,000 miles with it. 🙂 The current one we bought new four years ago and it can roll on ...

Very cute little car. Well, congratulations. We have always bought second hand and it has worked well. But the daughter got hold of "a gem" a few years ago that turned out to have more faults than merits. That's not fun 🙁

Anja, we always take the metro in Stockholm, but Peter has to have a car at work (difficult to take tools on the metro ;)). Haha, yes it will be a fun film! 🙂 (We may have to unpack a little to the storage room in Pampad first...)
Steve, many young people want new things, that's how it is today too. Then you realise that it is also fun to have some money left over 😉.
Ama de casa, glad the car is working again and that it wasn't too difficult to fix!
Solan, good with a car that works for 25 years! 🙂
Henny, used cars often work well, but it's a shame if you're unlucky and get a complicated fault in your neck...

What a cute little car! Hope it brings joy and experiences too:)
I intend to buy my first car soon. I am keen on an older Mercedes-Benz. They probably do not fall in value in any case. Hopefully the opposite if you take care of it. Hope to find one in a nice and refreshing colour, like your car:)
