Now it was finally time for winter storage of the motorhome! Our motorhome has been outdoors for several winters, but it feels like it has taken a bit of a beating. Among other things, it feels like the windows have been damaged. This year we got help from our friends in Arboga to rent an indoor winter storage space.
Freedom and Independence
Our friends' motorhome has been named Independence. Have you seen the film Armageddon with Bruce Willis from 1998? In this disaster film, a gigantic asteroid is about to collide with Earth and as a last-ditch effort to save the planet, an oil driller (Bruce Willis) is sent into space to blow up the asteroid.
They have two spaceships to help them - Freedom and Independence. But Freedom and Independence are not only two spaceships, but also two motorhome mates!
Winter storage of a motorhome indoors
So this year, we're going to be a little kind to our motorhomes and leave them indoors. We've spent a lot of time making sure that cleaning and washing Freedom, both inside and out, and of course we have emptied out most of our belongings. There are a few things that are broken and that we need to fix, but that will have to wait until spring. If you are also going to store your motorhome for the winter - please read our 10 tips for winter storage of a motorhome.
So, now Freedom is in the garage and we won't see our motorhome again until spring. We'll miss our motorhome, of course, but we have lots of other trips and activities to look forward to, and we'll be writing about motorhome and camping news during the winter months too!
Are you winter camping or how do you store your motorhome/caravan in winter? If you park your motorhome - what do you do instead during the winter months?

Nice mates! Here we are waiting for the high season to start for the caravan life towards Christmas... 🙂 🙂

Deciree says:
Nice that you have almost the same motorhome :)) They are friends:). We don't park the motorhome...we use it even in winter....

Mr Steve says:
Freedom has certainly earned its winter rest.
Freedom and Independence, what a radar pair.

Ama de casa says:
I always wondered about that film with Bruce... Wouldn't it be easier to teach an astronaut to drill than to train a drilling specialist to become an astronaut? 😉
A bit sad about the winter storage... But nice to Freedom.
We used to winterise our tent in the garage. But now we have thrown away the tent, and the hotels for the hotel campsite have to manage their winter storage on their own 😉.

Active Days-Camilla, it is so fun that your high season starts now! 🙂 Looking forward to reading about your winter camping!
Steve, yes our housekeeper has had to work hard this year, so a little rest might not be a bad thing 😉 .
Deciree, it's actually the same model and the same year of the motorhomes 😉.
Ama de casa, haha, I never thought about the astronaut and driller thing...! And easy winter storage for you now then, without the tent! 😉

Katarina Wohlfart says:
I usually winterise myself. 😉 No, joking aside. Hard to interact with this.

Katarina Wohlfart, haha, yes, I am aware that we also have many readers who do not have a motorhome 😉.

BP, haha, let's hope they stay in the game 😉.

BP says:
Freedom and Independence - what a pair! They will probably get along very well together there. As long as they don't create any more mini-Freedoms and/or mini-Independences ;-)

Oh, you're home now?!
Welcome home!!!

Matts Torebring says:
The first years with a motorhome, from 1999 onwards, we bought indoor parking. It was not fun, "we did not feel dressed," when the motorhome was not in the yard. Now I hope for a building permit for my cold garage at home on the neighbouring plot.

Anja says:
Hahhhaaa! Now everything is explained with the name! Are there Independence tattoos on the friends in Arboga?
Our (always used old cars) have always had names. On our first really old folk bus, someone had already written Fancy (it looked like an old Classic coffee packet, but turned bright yellow with our delicate fingers). We never liked the Fancy name, but when we stopped pronouncing it in English, she became ours! Then we had a Sputnik and other things... :-)....

Wonderful - two lovely houses side by side - so nice and cool WOW and not "dozen car like" at all - me like mega ?

Henny says:
You seem to have got a really good storage space for Freedom. So have I this year. Previously, we had the larger motorhome in a cramped cold garage with a dirt floor and no electricity. During the winter, the weight of the car caused the tyres to sink so much that we had to step on the gas to get out of the winter. Since I now have concrete floors, high ceilings and electricity, my son has arranged for the car to be charged for three hours a week using a timer. It feels good with all the electronics in cars nowadays. I pay 3000 SEK for such a seasonal pitch. How much does your storage cost?

JoY says:
So cool when you see both cars together.
We probably try to roll a little in the winter too and we have not yet come home hihihi.

Scottishmoments, we are home! (Although we don't have access to the boat until 1 Dec). Thank you so much! 🙂
Matts, I understand what you mean! It will feel empty without the motorhome, but it still feels like the best solution right now.
Anja, haha, they don't have any tattoos, but I will say that they have to get them...! 😉 It's funny that there are always names on the motorhomes! They become like a member of the family 😉.
Frankie & Co, two motorhome owners who are a little bit weird, haha.
Henny, we pay the same as you, 3000 SEK for the entire winter season including electricity. In Stockholm it is probably more expensive. Sounds like your car is good now, and it's nice not to have to gas like that out of the winter side in the spring! 😉
JoY, wishing you a pleasant journey!

Marina says:
The idea of winter storage is probably not so bad and the way the winters look now, maybe more people would go for winter storage, just look at all the bears 😉.
And to be honest, it feels like I've chosen winter storage for myself in recent years too... Nice with the names of the cars by the way!!!

admin says:
Marina, haha, maybe I should winterise sugar myself too? Or you can travel to the heat sometimes! 🙂

Ditte says:
Off the top of my head, I think it's good for Freedom to have indoor winter storage and even nicer with a soul mate next door.

Mr Lars Permelin says:
Two pairs of horses on wheels in the same stable, so it might not be so lonely for them. Our caravan horse is left outside next to the garage entrance with a Christmas cover. I check on her from time to time. She has to stand with some electric heating to keep the moisture away. By the way, we have several books waiting to be read. I think that time is rushing right now, may be due to too short light days.

Frankie & Co says:
Just right and just right... well we left that unsaid ???
We rent space in a machine hall on asphalt with constant electricity for a total of 1700 riksdaler by the way.
30 November 2015 - 21:55
admin says:
Ditte, I'm sure he'll do well to be protected from the elements!
Lars Permelin, it sounds like an excellent winter storage too! It's nice to have it nearby so you can check on it sometimes... And the days do feel short when it gets dark so quickly!
Frankie & Co, haha, yes, you can probably have different opinions about that 😉 And what a good price you got! We also have electricity all the time, but we pay a little more (and still thought it was a good price).

Lasse lennartsson says:
Hi! Also lives in Arboga and has
Almost got the "pearl" home.
Have space in Arboga but would like to move to something better.
Where you are renting, is there room for another motorhome?
23 March 2019 - 17:23
Helena says:
Hi Lasse! Great that you got the Pearl home! 🙂 We only rented one winter at this place in Arboga and that is a few years ago. Now we do not rent there anymore and unfortunately I do not really remember what the place was called either.
