Spa in Riga, Latvia? We visited the ESPA spa in Riga, located in the Radisson Blue hotel, yesterday. Radisson Blue hotel could really deliver and it was a whole afternoon with bath, sauna and massage. Talk about a luxurious experience! Want to try a spa in Riga too?
What is ESPA Riga?
ESPA in Riga is an exclusive six-storey spa. The silent lift glides up and down between glossy black floors, where you can choose to get off at the changing rooms, fitness area, large pool, sauna and whirlpool area, treatment rooms or perhaps the relaxation area. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed - no children running around and no loud noises.
Spa in Riga with pool and sauna
After we changed into swimwear, as well as into the dressing gown and slippers we got when we arrived, we took the opportunity to enjoy the whirlpool for a while. Here you lie under the open sky in the warm bubbling water - really nice!
Neither of us are overly fond of saunas, but it was still nice to spend a little time in one of the small sauna rooms. You can choose the type of sauna according to taste and preferences and the sauna we chose was not too hot, which I like.
Treatments
There are a variety of treatments to choose from, and we each had a 50 min massage. Admittedly, I have quite limited experience of spas and massages, but this was without doubt the best ever! I opted for a relaxing massage oil, while Peter wanted something energising - and we were both very pleased!
After the massage was finished, the massage therapist showed us to the relaxation area where we could lie down and relax in a reclining armchair and where there was also tea, water and snacks for those who wanted ... Pure luxury then! Have you ever been to a spa and what do you think of it? Would you consider going to Riga for a city and spa weekend?
BP says:
Yes your SPA experience is about the same as we had at the SPA in Jurmala. http://www.hoteljurmala.com/en
We thought it was far too "soft" despite the bathrobes that were included and included in the price = we could have taken them home if we wanted, but we refrained. We even had a sauna "in the room", but none of us like to sauna, so... So no, here it is the rejection;-)
I would consider going to Riga again, absolutely (we have been there four times), but certainly not for a SPA experience, but to follow the development of the city and to explore the surroundings of Jurmala/Majoris.

What a wonderful refreshment for body and soul. I used to love taking a sauna, the hotter the better.
My most memorable spa experience was a week at a spa in Budapest. My first trip abroad after my stroke. Multiple treatments every day were a bit too much for my "sprained" body. At the time, I still had a strong belief that I would recover and therefore wanted to try "everything". I still get a smile on my lips when I see myself rushing around in flip flops pointing in different directions. Now, I never recovered, but the spa stay was a fantastic experience, with not least delicious meals, which I remember with joy afterwards.

How delicious! I have stayed at the SAS Radisson Blue both times I have been in Riga, but have not visited this SPA. Not even sure if it was in the house at that time.
If I go there again, it will of course be to visit ESPA. As for SPA in general, I have visited several both in Jumala, Tallinn, Bangkok, Beijing, (where it was often) Budapest and Stockholm. In Stockholm, I like Hasseluddens Yasiguragi in Nacka and have sometimes checked in there for a day, but it is of course possible to visit during a day.
Thank you for a nice and rewarding report from Riga with nice pictures and good information.

I like to sauna. A short time... The sauna we had in the house in Sollentuna had a big advantage - there were windows. Perfect to open, it gets so hot in those small rooms... 😉.

BP, we've heard about spas in Jurmsls before. This time we were told that it is more for families there, and perhaps a little more luxurious here at ESPA. As I said, sauna is not really our thing either, but the hot outdoor whirlpool was absolutely awesome. And the massage too! 🙂
Steve, interesting to hear about your spa experience in Budapest! Budapest is really famous for its baths! I understand that it must have been a difficult period after the stroke, but it's good to hear that the experience from the spa in Budapest was positive!
Ditte, glad you stayed at that hotel, it looked very nice! We can highly recommend the spa there if you go there again! Interesting to hear about your other spa experiences. How are spas in China?
Ama de casa, haha, maybe I would also need windows, I often think it gets too hot 😉.

Krisztina, it was really luxurious and relaxing! Of course not free but better prices than in Sweden, so it's the right place if you want a city and spa weekend 🙂.

I have never liked the sauna since, as a child, I was allowed to accompany my
mother to the public baths once a week. Not many
had bathrooms at home. - You'd go into a big room, you'd soap...
in and had his back brushed. Rinsing and into the sauna. Felt
as if I would suffocate. Then it was rinse and dry again.
Hated this during the cold season. Had woollen socks, and
they were so itchy in the reeds, when their legs were a little damp. Morning coat
and slippers I would not have said no to. 🙂
And, no, I've never been to a spa. My daughter-in-law took me to a...
massage parlour in Saigon; no bath. Felt OK, but such luxury...
facilities that you (and Ditte) describe, are far from what the
I would spend money on (even if I could afford it).
Stingy old bitch, that's what I am. 🙂
No, the fact is, I don't like to be kneaded.

Helena, ok good that the comment came up! For some reason, comments are often more easily approved with my private e-mail address and if I do not enter the website, but ideally I want to comment with the information linked to the blog ... Hope you have a nice trip to Tallinn!
Ruth in Virginia, thank you for your comment! Interesting to hear about your experiences. I can definitely understand that you didn't enjoy that experience as a child, and I probably wouldn't have either. As I said, I'm not a fan of saunas either, but I think bubble baths and massages are a real luxury!

Now future comments should be approved, as I have approved your e-mail address. Yes, of course you want to comment so the link to the blog and everything is included. Boring otherwise.
Tallinn was cancelled unfortunately, so it was a quiet evening at home instead. A little boring, but still a little nice not to be out at sea in a storm.

Helena, thank you! I will try to comment with you again and see if it works now. So sad that Tallinn was canceled, but maybe nice to avoid a storm at sea ...!
