Yesterday we organised a little "mulled wine walk" together with Peter's eldest son Robin, his wife Alexandra, Robin's half-sister Felicia (not Peter's daughter) and her boyfriend David. We started in our houseboat and there we had the opportunity to bid on yesterday's finds from Hötorgshallen.
What is a mulled wine walk?
Mulled wine walk can probably mean different things. Our idea was simply that we would walk between our three homes and drink mulled wine at each place. We live within walking distance of each other. Peter and I live in Pampas marina in Solna, Felicia and David live at Hornsbergs Strand (across the water) and Robin and Alexandra live at Fridhemsplan.
We started at the houseboat at 15 o'clock and here we had both mulled wine and dinner. Then we were invited to both this year's mulled wine from Blossa (Earl Grey flavour) and elderberry mulled wine together with gingerbread with good cheeses at Felicia and David's home.
Unfortunately, I got such a terrible headache in the evening that Peter and I had to cancel before the last stop with Robin and Alexandra, but it was at least a very nice afternoon and evening!
Dinner with Hungarian inspiration
As I said, we started at our home in the houseboat, first with mulled wine and then with a dinner with some Hungarian inspiration. What did we buy in Hötorgshallen then? Well, foie gras from Hellberg's bird & game! We mixed the foie gras with some whipped cream and a splash of brandy and served it on buttered bread slices, along with some warm pear compote. For this we offered a Hungarian tokaj wine.
To continue the Hungarian theme, the main course was homemade goulash soup, along with bread and cheese. There are lots of different recipes for goulash, but we chose to cook it in French and make a real slow cooker, so that the meat had to cook for several hours and become tender.

Fun with the mulled wine walk, but sad with your headache. Foie gras is good, but I have never tried it with pear compote. Goulash is super tasty and of course the meat should be really tender. Hope you have recovered.

What a fun idea for a mulled wine walk! Too bad you had to surrender before it was over. Maybe the Tokaj wine was a contributing factor. It is slightly sweet and "heavy" if you say so.
Oh what food you offered! I haven't eaten goulash soup for years and years, I got inspiration there. A slow cooker makes itself, so to speak. Heavenly luxurious starter too. What you are good:-)

Mr Steve says:
A mulled wine walk sounds like a fun thing to do. Delicious dinner too. However, I can't remember ever having had foie gras. Goulash soup is perfect for a cosy December day.

BP, from time to time I get into "headache periods". The Tokaj wine may have been a contributing factor, but sometimes it doesn't matter what I do or don't do... Goulash soup is super tasty, fun if we could inspire 🙂.
Steve, I guess foie gras doesn't fit in a vegetarian diet either 😉 But maybe there is vegetarian goulash? Good soup is in any case! 🙂
Elisabeth, the pear compote was a great combo! We've tried it with an apple sauce before, and that was good too. Thank you, I feel much better today even though I am tired.
Åsa, thank you it's better today even though I'm overtired and sensitive to light....

What a nice idea with the mulled wine walk and perfect when it is within walking distance.
Both the starter and main course looked so good, right up my street.
However, it's sad that your headache would show up. Unfortunately, mulled wine is quite sweet and so is tokajer and that may have played a role. But headaches are not so consistent...
Hope you feel better today.

Rolle and Carina, it does...
Ditte, of course food and drink (as well as sleep and stress) play a role, but when I get a headache, I also become excessively sensitive... It's much better today, but not completely good....

Mr Lars Permelin says:
Nice idea, but unfortunately it doesn't work for us. Bad luck with the headache. Hungarian Tokaj wine is good but I think it has a slightly higher alcohol content than usual.

Oh how delicious! 🙂
Too bad that the head stopped the walk... Sounded like a great idea otherwise 🙂 Here it will probably also be a mulled wine walk soon - we will walk over with a bottle of mulled wine to the neighbours 🙂 .

Lars Permelin, I did not check the alcohol content of the Tokaj wine, but it is possible. There was only one glass with the starter. Then it was red wine (and beer for me who doesn't drink red).
Ama de casa, that was a fun thing! Absolutely sure that your "mulled wine walk" will be great too! 😉
