Now we have come home from Riga and today it was finally time to move into the houseboat! How does it feel? Actually really good! We are incredibly happy with our 1 year round trip to Europe and it is fantastic to move back to such a beautiful environment.
Our houseboat
Our houseboat located in Pampas marina in Solna, Stockholm. The boat is originally a passenger sloop from the 1930s, which has been remodelled on several occasions. We bought it in 2013 and rebuilt it extensively in 2014. Most of the time we have lived in the boat we have renovated, but now we will actually just live here!
The surroundings are fantastic - water, birds, about 100 nice houseboat neighbours (in 40 houseboats) and only a few minutes to the metro. We think there's no better way to live, and it's certainly easier to come home from a long trip when you live like this!
Coming home and unpacking
We have spent the whole day today unpacking and getting organised. When we arrived at the houseboat it was clean and tidy, but totally empty of stuff. Our belongings were in cardboard boxes in a temporary storage room in the marina, as our usual storage room is not available. water damaged. We have driven cart after cart of stuff to be able to move into the boat. Then we have finally been able to celebrate with beer and prawns... How good!
We have had a lot of problems with the Internet (both the prepaid card from Comviq and the stick in the houseboat), but we hope to get it sorted out soon. We still have a lot to tell you about Riga (not least about all the fantastic restaurants), so we'll be back soon!

Åsa, we are enjoying now! 🙂
BP, thank you so much! 🙂 Yes, it was excellent weather to move into actually! We went into Pressbyrån because we thought our Comviq cards might have run out, but the guy there was surfing and discovered it was a general problem... and it still hasn't started!

Welcome home! And home to Freedom Boat! Isn't it great to come back to a home where you feel comfortable? I understand you completely. We do not live in a houseboat. but well on the quay in a house and have roughly similar views and environment around us. How delicious!
Understand that shrimps tasted good! Know that you missed these on the trip!
Looking forward to more Riga posts.

BP says:
Welcome home for real here then:-)
Oh how lucky you were to be able to move back in eight degree "heat", bright sunshine and no snow! Perfect, I think.
I read on a blog that Comviq had major problems during the day with their subscriptions, so you weren't alone if that's any consolation.
You have been able to drink beer everywhere you have been, but prawns - I understand that there was a party at your place tonight:-)

How cool it must be to live in a houseboat. I checked out the page about the motorhome, what a difference from how it looked when you bought it! So nice!

Yes, we usually say "away good, but home best" and home is either the motorhome or the house 😀 Understand that you have a lot to do now, but it's just fun stuff.
It will be interesting to read more about Riga.

I have followed your European trip so closely that I can even feel how good it is to be back on the houseboat again. What shouldn't you feel?
Celebrated with prawns too, prawns that you missed during your long journey. What a wonderful welcome home celebration.

Ditte, thank you! We know that you live in a similar environment, nice with water and boats as a view 🙂.
Nils-Åke, thank you very much!
Helena, the houseboat accommodation is cosy! And nice to hear that you like how we fixed the motorhome 🙂 ðŸ™'
Maggan and Ingemar, yes, there is a lot to fix to get in order, but it is mostly quite nice crafts! What is most difficult is probably everything that concerns TV, telephone, internet etc...
Elisabeth, the houseboat was really a fond reunion for us too! 🙂
Marina, thank you so much!
Steve, it has been so much fun to "have you along" on our trip! Yes, it's a bit nice to be home in the boat again 🙂 .
Deciree, we were a bit worried that coming home would feel "empty", but it actually feels really good!

Ama de casa says:
Yes, not a bad place to come back to! Welcome home for real now 🙂
Here the internet has also bothered a bit, but it has been due to the fact that they are messing around to lay out fibre in the surroundings. And then it does not matter that you get a little disturbed from time to time, it would be great to get rid of adsl! Especially the fixed line from Telefonica... 🙂 ðŸ™'

Ama de casa, thank you! 🙂 Not fun when the Internet fails... We don't really know what solution to use yet and we can't get our router to work...
Maria, of course we will offer a tour of the boat! It's coming 🙂

Finally home is perhaps the feeling after a whole year rolling around Europe. I still have an idea to somehow make a quick visit to the Pampas and see your environment live. My son's family lives close by, on Tomtebogatan, almost at Karlberg station. Have fun moving in!

Anna, yes maybe... But we already have several trips booked! 😉
Inga M, you are welcome to drop by! You can knock on profit and loss, or send an email before! Then it's quite nice to walk around here among the houseboats too 🙂 ...
