Of course you can take your motorhome/caravan out for winter camping in the middle of the cold season - at least if you have a vehicle adapted for the winter season and if you like winter sports! According to a new press release from motorhome manufacturer Niesman+Bischoff, you can dream away to South Tyrol and Caravan Park Sexten.
Caravan Park Sexten - 300 kilometres south of Munich
Caravan Park Sexten is nestled in beautiful scenery at the foot of the Dolomites and is considered one of the very best winter campsites in Europe. Not only does it offer first-class service facilities - including spa and wellness areas - and top-class culinary experiences, but it also offers great opportunities for winter sports. In the immediate vicinity of the campsite you will find first-class slopes with a total length of more than 200 kilometres, both for beginners and more advanced skiers.
Offers for Niesmann+Bischoff customers
For many Arto and Flair owners, Camping Park Sexten has long been an attractive destination, as buyers of these motorhome models are offered a "Niesmann+Bischoff package" that includes a welcome drink, breakfast bread, free access to the swimming pool with sauna and fitness area - as well as a typical Bavarian breakfast on the day of departure.
Are you curious about winter camping?
Have you ever tried winter camping or would you consider doing so? We have been out with the motorhome in snow on occasion, but we have never used the motorhome to go on a skiing holiday.
We thought about it several years ago, but never prioritised it. Our motorhome is probably not optimal for the winter season either. Maybe we would consider winter camping if we had a motorhome that was better suited for the purpose. But it sure looks cool when you see the pictures, or what do you think?
Åsa says:
We went to Kungsberget once with Sverker's old mersa bus and sleeping bags. Without heating. It was a bit cold so we had to sleep in the same sleeping bag. The Dolomites are very nice and what luxurious motorhomes there are! (Freedom for example!)

Cat's Considerations says:
We had our car in the Alps many years ago, staying about 1 week in each ski resort for a month. It was at -30 that the problems came. Snow chains are recommended. In Sweden it has been taken to Riksgränsen and Björkliden, works well. We have even had a trailer with a scooter behind our old 9.20 m trailer. But as you know, we are now without a carriage. We go to Munich in January for skiing in Austria but we fly down this time.

Winter camping is super lovely that's for sure!

Åsa, "a little" cold, haha. You are Vikings you! Yes, of course Freedom is nice, but there are much more luxurious motorhomes in completely different price ranges as well 😉.
Katta's observations, wow cool! Our motorhome wouldn't be able to handle that kind of cold, I think. If we were winter camping, I would buy an insulation blanket for the front windows, but anyway... Great skiing in Austria!
Deciree, I can imagine! 🙂

Ama de casa says:
When it comes to skiing holidays, I have always opted for hotel camping or apartment camping. And I will continue to do so.
Probably because our tent was so poorly insulated? 😉

Mr Steve says:
In my youth in the 1960s, my father and I often travelled with a caravan up to the mountains in Jämtland to go ice fishing. At that time, my father sold Cabby caravans at our petrol station.

Lena & Jan says:
Nice offers! BUT we believe that there are too few GREAT after warranty service offers from ALL motorhome companies!

Mr Bruno says:
I have been winter camping every winter since I started with a motorhome in 1996. The first two cars would not be called winter cars today, but it went well. There were no problems with the heat but a lot of LPG was used. Now I have a real winter car.

Lennart says:
Of course you can go winter camping, down south!
We have a real winter car that is also good against heat.
Keeps the heat out so we stay cool inside!

Do like AMA, but have never camped;-)

Ama de casa, haha, if tents were the option I would also choose hotel or apartment... 😉.
Steve, there you go! I knew about the petrol station, but the caravans were new to me! 😉
Lena & Jan, how do you mean? After the warranty period or how? What kind of offers would you like to have? Please explain!
Bruno, wow, impressive! It's probably like that with our motorhome too. We can heat it quite well, but it uses a lot of LPG! Better than a real winterised car of course!
Lennart, haha, it's also a kind of winter camping 😉 Of course, insulation protects against both cold and heat!
BP, hotel or apartment (or cabin!) is also not wrong on a ski holiday! 😉 I haven't camped much in my life either, but there have been a few times 😉.

Anders and Birgitta says:
We have done a lot of winter camping. When we had a caravan, we had a seasonal place in Tandådalen for a few years, it was wonderful to sit in the caravan and huddle when there was a snowstorm. When we switched to a motorhome, we were also in Tandådalen several times and went skiing with the grandchildren, that's where they learned to go downhill, it was a cosy time and we did not freeze anything, the cars were Frankia and Concorde which can handle the winter nicely. We have also done winter camping with a motorhome in Zell am Zee, Oberstorf and Garmisch Partenkirchen, it was very nice. Now, however, we choose to spend the winter in the south, perhaps because we have started to get a little older and you have less ailments in the heat.

Anders and Birgitta, oh you really have a lot of experience with winter camping! It sounds quite cosy to huddle in the motorhome when the snow is dripping outside 🙂.

Ditte says:
I have actually winter-camped in Sweden a couple of times, in Sälen and in a rented caravan with two children aged nine, and it worked perfectly well. But it was cold to go to the service centre to shower.
In the Alps, like many others, I prefer hotel/apartment camping and fly down. I usually stay in resorts that have larger lift systems so that you can easily get between the resorts on the same card so I do not need my own car.
But I should also mention that I've actually camped in the snow for real, in a snow bivouac; self dug one for a couple of nights during my gymnastics director training. (We went on a tour between Absiko Nikkaloukta in Lapland and were out for six days).
Later I spent a few nights with my dad in the snow in an igloo and a snow bivouac. So I have tried....Can be recommended for those interested in the outdoors....

Here comes the grumpy old lady who doesn't like motorhomes.
Imagine, how they spoil wonderful winter landscapes! 🙁
And beautiful beaches too, for that matter.
God Jul, Merry Christmas, Selamat Hari Natal, etc. etc.

Marina says:
In the halcyon days of my youth, every Easter and sports holiday I went with my friend and her family to Sälen where they had a caravan in the seasonal car park. There we lived, her parents, three teenagers and an Irish setter! Today I can ask myself how in heaven's name we got space (there was no tent to store things in), but obviously it went well, and we had fun! (I have no idea how much fun the parents had, but they did it again year after year anyway...)

admin says:
Ditte, you should write a book about all your experiences! 🙂 Interesting that you have winter camping, but perhaps even more interesting with the snow bivouac. Sounds exciting!
Ruth in Virgina, you can think as you like, fortunately! Personally, I think that large hotel complexes spoil nature more 😉.
Marina, I can definitely imagine that you had a lot of fun! It does sound a bit more challenging for the parents, but maybe you were good teenagers 😉.

Ruth in Virginia says:
I agree with you, but I wonder what it would look like if all of the
hotel guests came in motorhomes instead. Trailer park! 🙂
