Today we tell you about Riga's best restaurants in Latvia, in our opinion. The restaurants in Riga really surprised positively and we have already told you about 3 good restaurants in the city. Although all the restaurants we visited were really good, there were two that stood out a lot, and we'll tell you about them today. These are the restaurants you go to not just to fill up, but to have an extraordinary experience.
Restaurant Kalku Varti
Restaurant Kalku Varti is located in the Old Town of Riga and offers a stylish yet warm environment. The head chef is relatively young, but has already made a name for himself. He appears on a Latvian TV show and the restaurant has cooked for many famous guests, such as 26 presidents during a NATO meeting and the Swedish royal family.
We were served five absolutely fantastic dishes and were truly in food heaven during our visit. The chef himself came out and talked about each dish, making the experience even greater. This is what we ate:
- Appetiser: Cheese and ostrich biscuits with pickled pumpkin and soya beans
- Entree: Cauliflower sorzotto (like risotto but with grains) with raclette cheese and black trumpet mushrooms
- EntreeSorbet with wild berries
- Main course: Fillet of venison with beetroot pastry, parsnip crisp and porter sauce
- Dessert: A fantastic creation with different types of pastries, ice cream and crème.
Restaurant Elements
Restaurant Elements is located in the Tallink Hotel in Riga. Chef Svetlana Riškova serves creative European food made from Latvian ingredients. We ate a 5-course menu and must say that all the dishes tasted fantastic, which is perhaps not surprising given that Svetlana is both a judge in cookery competitions and has served many famous guests, such as the President of Latvia.
Before we started the meal, we had a small "cooking class" where Svetlana showed how some of the dishes on the menu were prepared. Very interesting, even if we only got to watch... This is what we ate:
- Appetiser: Sliced venison fillet with celery puree and baked apples, pickled onions, crumbled capers and bread rolls.
- Entree: Creamy cauliflower soup with char fillet, dill emulsion, broccoli fondant and turnips
- Main course: Suckling pig cutlet with sweet potato mash, pea and grain salad, themed marinated plum and cookie crumbs
- Entree: Beetroot and rosemary sorbet with warm blackcurrant foam
- Dessert: Hazelnut bar with apple cake, pine syrup, rowanberry marmalade and acorn ice cream

Uhhh it looks like you got really good food when you were in Riga. Super delicious pictures 🙂 We were at Elements when we were in Riga and were certainly satisfied with the food we were served at this restaurant and super exciting to read your experience of this place.

So good! Really! And what fantastic arrangements!
But it's quite a heavy food, but in smaller portions it would probably go down.
What food experiences you have had! And I would love to try more of them.
That dessert composition with the sugar topping was completely to my taste. Yes, many other things too.
Great photos!
(I should also now remember to use the macro lens).

Anita, it really was! 🙂
BP, haha I understand that! Laughed when I read your comment! 😉
Ontripdk, we really got absolutely fantastic food in Riga. Glad that you have also been to Elements and liked the food! (Hard not to like it ;))
Ditte, really nice arrangements! The portions were actually small (it's photographed very closely with a macro lens!) I thought the desserts were perhaps a little bulky, but not the food in general.

Gosh, what a lot of good stuff! Now the keyboard got so sticky again... 😉 ...
But no matter how I do the maths, I get both 7-course menus to 5-course? Is it possible that you are withholding some of the food from us? 😉

Ama de casa, haha, you are in order! I really wonder what I was thinking there... There were some drinks served before and after, but that hardly counts as a dish? I simply have to admit that I have never been good at maths...! Corrects immediately! 😉
Lena, these tips are hot if you ever end up in Riga! 🙂

I realise that you really have been on a journey with fantastic culinary experiences. However, I must admit that the "cheese and ostrich pastry" sounded a bit strange, but it doesn't have to be less tasty for that.

Åsa, haha, there is not much that fits in this context... 😉 But it was very interesting to hear about the soups at McDonalds not least!
Marina, I don't know if my translation is strange, but it was delicious! 😉
