Yesterday we visited the art gallery MRoss Gallery located on Hornsberg beach in Stockholm, opposite the Pampas marina where we live. Our houseboat neighbour Mette Ross paints, exhibits and sells her colourful artwork here.
Mette does what she is passionate about
Mette has been painting all her life, but it used to be just a hobby that she pursued for its own sake. During the day, her life was hectic with sales jobs. When several relatives became seriously ill at the same time, Mette began to think about what is important in life and when she had her daughter Malou, she took a big step: she decided to start painting full-time.
The houseboat in the Pampas marina was converted into a studio and today her husband Peter told us that living in the middle of a painting workshop was not always easy. When he came home and found red paint stains all over the kitchen, he knew that... "well, today a red painting has been painted". Two years ago, Mette acquired the studio and gallery on Hornsberg beach, and now she has the perfect location to both paint and exhibit her paintings!
Colourful art
Mette loves colour - and gold, and it shows in her art! The artworks are colourful, full of emotion and contain all sorts of unexpected creative details. Inspiration can come from the sea, from a particular piece of clothing or from music. Several of Mette's exhibitions have actually been themed around song titles, such as "Knockin' on heaven's door" or "Another brick in the wall".
If you wish, you can also make special orders for paintings. Maybe you want a specific theme or colour scheme? Mette told me today that some customers are showing photos of their homes to help them decide what might suit them!
Right now Mette is also working on an exciting collaboration with a glass company. They photograph the paintings and imprint the motif in the glass - which can then be used for a shower wall, a partition in an office or really anything. If you are passing by Hornsberg beach one day, feel free to check out the gallery!

Wonderful with people who dare to break up and do what they are passionate about! 🙂
I say like Lennart - my paintings cannot be sold either, but you can actually laugh at them. In retrospect anyway 🙂

Beautiful! I also like a lot of colour! Some would argue that it is not art if it is commissioned, but it takes feeling and skill to achieve such a painting as well. Strange thing about art. Someone can paint a few lines or a single-colour painting, something that is not art, and be recognised as an artist, while others are looked down upon even though they are incredibly skilled. I guess it's about finding an expression that appeals. By the way, my father paints and has had paintings sold. He often paints owls and moose and such, but mostly sells pictures of Uppsala in bad weather. Pictures of people struggling in the snow along the Uppsala River sell better than owls. He usually gets a couple of thousand per painting! /Åsa

Very colourful, and I agree with Ama de casa. Great to see people who dare to take "that step".

Really colourful paintings, so you'll need a large room and big walls. But very exciting!
Thanks for the suggestions for nice places to go when you're out and about. I like to check out galleries and have visited many in Söder and Gamla stan, but I still have Kungsholmen.

Yes, I know exactly where she has her gallery.
AND how wonderful for her to be so close to home, and to work. Nice walk all seasons.
Perfect distance.

Lennart, not so many of those who paint manage to sell. But it can be fun to paint anyway! 🙂
Ama de casa, I agree! Too few people have the courage to invest in what they really want, I think.
Steve, it's always inspiring with people like that! 🙂
Åsa, I have never thought about what you write about ordering. However, I can agree that art is tricky. What is expensive and what is not, for example, can often be incomprehensible. At least for an ordinary mortal non-art expert 😉 And I also laugh a little to myself when I hear that people struggling in the storm in Uppsala sells best. Is it that people recognise themselves...?
Ditte, it can be nice to check out galleries! I do it too rarely, but when I do it, I don't regret it 😉.
Annika, how nice that you know the gallery! But I know that you hang out in those corners sometimes 😉.
Anonymous, what fun! Surely these are lovely paintings ðŸ™'

It's great that Mette dared to invest in what she is really passionate about. She must be incredibly successful considering that she has her own studio and gallery on Hornsbergs Strand. It's great to see her doing so well. Maybe more people should dare to do like her!
