Campsites are not always a destination in themselves, but some campsites have that extra something that makes you want to stay for a while. Perhaps the nature is special there or there is that more personal feeling. Today we present ten cosy campsites in Europe where we have enjoyed staying, in no particular order. Which campsites in Europe would you recommend?
Table of contents
1. MotorhomeCamping S'ABBA DRUCHE in Bosa, Sardinia
The service house is extremely basic, but you have great views, a peaceful atmosphere and if you walk a few hundred metres there is a great restaurant. Read more about A favourite spot in Sardinia.
2. camping Moskato in Himara, Albania
There are no luxuries here, but the staff are endlessly caring and clean several times a day. Outside the gates is the endless sea and a small band of small restaurants. Read more about Camping in Albania.
3. Camping Kito on Brac, Croatia
Here we relaxed while the staff picked olives or visited relatives in Bosnia. It is within walking distance of Zlatni Rat and in summer there is a small restaurant. Read more about camping on Brac.
4. Rullsands Havsbad in Gävle, Sweden
A relaxed campsite where we have celebrated midsummer a few times. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the beautiful beach, and if you get tired you can walk over to the small bar. Read more about Rullsands camping.
5. Sunset camping in Struga, Macedonia
The owner is happy to offer you a glass of raki, some melon or maybe a piece of burek while you talk about this and that. There is a small beach and you can take a long walk to Struga. Read more about camping life in Macedonia.
6. camping de Cupabia, Corsica
The fact that no one speaks English doesn't matter when you get to stand at such a fantastic beach. So beautiful that you never want to leave. Read more about Paradise beach in Corsica.
7. Camping Naluka in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro
As soon as you roll into the campsite, the owner wants to show you how to get to the beach and the two restaurants. You are nicely positioned by a small river and when we left we were given a bottle of wine. Read more about Bay of Kotor.
8. Gran camping in zarautz, Spain
It's a strenuous walk up to the campsite from the beach, but the view from the top is worth it. Plus, good service without a lot of hassle. Read more about Zarautz in the sunshine.
9. Lake Shkodra resort, Albania
It may not be the most personal campsite in Albania, but it's probably one of the most beautiful. Standards are high and the restaurant overlooks Lake Shkoder. Read more about Lake Shkodra Resort.
10. Camp Podaca on the Macedonian Riviera, Croatia
The steep entrance makes the campsite most suitable for small cars. Once you're there, it's charming with the steps down to the beach and the little walkie-talkie to call the staff. Read more about Makarska Riviera. Retrospective correction: Note! This campsite has been closed in 2016 "for personal reasons".

Camping Caceres in Spain was different!
Each plot had its own small service centre.

What places! We are leaving for our mini car tour in a week now! It will be exciting! Unfortunately, the campsites you mentioned are a bit too far away for us, especially the one in Gävle. We'll see if we can find a good campsite here in Portugal...

We have stayed at many nice campsites over the years. The best are (in our opinion) usually the 2 - 3 star ones. More personal and not big, untidy shower/dish/washing facilities. I probably can't come up with a specific campsite, but along the French Atlantic coast there are as many as possible to choose from (too many almost, difficult for one with decision-making anxiety 😉 ). I like when you don't have to "aim" at a campsite, but that there are several where you are when you feel like staying 🙂.

Nice to read about your camping suggestions around Europe. We have no experience of camping in Europe at all, except that in the south of France, on the border with Spain, Valras Plage, we have rented a large caravan. But it was a perfect campsite on the beach with all the comforts of the campsite and nearby.
In the USA and New Zealand, however, we have travelled around and stayed in campsites. But that was a long time ago....
Great tips for those heading out this summer.
We are keen to go to Albania, but then it will be a hotel.

Lennart, it was really special to have your own service centre! Was it expensive?
Steve, these were campsites we enjoyed! Of course, you can have different preferences 😉.
Åsa, it will be so exciting to follow your journey! We actually only stood on two campsites in Portugal, I think, in Caminha and in Nazare. They were perfectly ok even though the one in Nazare was surrounded by barbed wire 😉 Otherwise we stood on pitches, fricamped or kind of outside people we greeted 😉.
Lena Larsson, wonderful with a trip to look forward to! Yes, Portugal is nice!?
Gun Kallin, it's a nice view, isn't it?
Ama de casa, I think we might have some similar campsite flavour there 😉 On the French Atlantic coast we couldn't try any campsites though, all were closed when we were there in December... 😉.
Aila, oh is that true? It was just opened so I didn't think so! Thanks for the info! I'm going to write a little harangue about it when I sit at the computer so I don't fool anyone...!
JoY, yes we managed to try some! 🙂
Ditte, it will be interesting to hear what you think about Albania if you go there!
Comsi Comsa, there are many nice places around Europe 🙂 .

Anette says:
I've almost forgotten what camping is like.
We camped our way through Europe, partly before the children were born but mostly in the 90s and early 2000s. It's easy to stop when you can't drive anymore and children often don't appreciate hotels until they're a bit older. They are freer and have more to do on a campsite.
Nowadays I am too comfortable for tents and here in Asia it is unusual to camp.

Anette, I can imagine that camping is a cosy adventure for children! If you are comfortable with tents, renting a cabin at a campsite could be an option!

Exciting to read about your travelling destinations with a motorhome... Also a fun blog! We are not big campers, but we sell motorhomes so our season starts now, so holidays for us are Spain in winter time... Happy Easter holidays!
