Yesterday we visited the Vildmarksmässan at the Stockholm Fair in Älvsjö, and it was more fun and adventurous than we expected. Today we can tell you about adrenaline-fuelled activities, unusual camping vehicles and adventurous destinations. You don't want to miss it, do you? If you want to see the fair for yourself, there is still a chance today, Sunday 13 March.
Adrenalin boosting activities
The fair offered many adventurous taster activities. What would you most like to try out of scuba diving, mountain biking in the cycling arena, rock climbing, slacklining or throwing a small Viking axe? What do you think Peter tried? You can click on the pictures to see them bigger if you want!
A different kind of caravan
Two small, flexible caravans were on display at the fair. First we looked at the Fritidsvagnen, which is a small and light caravan that can be pulled by just about anything. The caravan has perhaps attracted the most attention when it was shown with skis instead of wheels, pulled by a snowmobile, although this is not the most common use.
Then we looked at the Camp-let, which is a handy tent trailer. You attach the trailer to the back of a regular car, and when it's time to stop for the night, you unfold a tent that sleeps four people.
The salesman claimed that it only took 2-5 minutes to pack up the trolley. I didn't really believe it, so he had to prove it ... and I guess I had to agree with him. It was quick! Other advantages are that you can pull out the kitchen and use it for a lunch stop and that the trailer can be stored upside down in a garage.
Adventurous destinations
The tour operators on site offered really exciting and different destinations - inspiring to think in new ways! How about Greenland, Svalbard or Alaska with Greenland Travel? Or perhaps skiing to the North Pole, mountaineering in Ecuador or rainforest adventures in Guyana with Expedition Travel?
With the Pink Buses you can experience everything from Madagascar to Bangladesh or Peru (or Ullared actually). Safariresor.se focuses on Africa and offers interesting destinations such as Uganda, Namibia and Kilimanjaro.
Last but not least, prizes were awarded to the female and male adventurers of the year. Wow, what adventurers there are! But more on that later...

What an interesting fair, I should have been there! 🙂

Ama de casa says:
Oh! The pink buses to Ullared sound cool! Ullared is my dream destination (for real!) but I won't get there. "Someone" is resisting... 🙂 ðŸ™'
Cool with that tent trailer!

Exciting fair and so cool to live on a houseboat. Thank you for visiting me!

Interesting! Would have loved to visit that particular fair! However, we ended up, not unexpectedly, in Kläppen even this weekend... : Starting to get more and more hungry to discover more of other seasons here. There are good opportunities for various adventures!

Emelie, it was an unexpectedly fun fair! 🙂
Ama de casa, it was fun to check the Pink Buses catalogue because they really had all sorts of imaginative destinations. I don't dream so much about Ullared, but I think you should be able to realise that dream in your life 😉.
Suss, we are enjoying the houseboat, thanks for the comment!
Active days-Camilla, this fair would definitely suit you! Of course, you will experience wilderness and adventure anyway! 🙂

Ditte says:
In terms of activities, I would try climbing.
Unfortunately, I realise that I am now a bit old, but I would have liked to join Ola Skinnarmo on Killimanjaro.
Greenland and Svalbard are also attractive, as is Alaska. And there's a lot...
The Camlet seemed practical, but now we don't have a car so it's a bit tricky.
Glad you were at the fair and wrote a report.

Biggeros says:
So nice fair!!! I would like to try diving and climbing:) When the children were small, we often camped and over a weekend a little everywhere. The kids loved it. For me, two nights are enough. Thanks for the look, hugs

There were a lot of interesting things at that fair. I've been there before at both a car and boat show, great variety.
The tent trailer was really something special. Quick to take down, can be an advantage, sometimes. Travelling to Africa in the 40s, yes, it was probably completely different from today's travel, in many ways.
Nice pictures. Thanks for an interesting tour.
Hugs!

Interesting!
Yes, there is plenty to do!

Ditte, I'm also keen on Greenland and Svalbard! By the way, Ola Skinnarmo was there and presented the prize to the adventurer of the year 🙂.
Biggeros, great to hear that you were out camping with the kids! Climbing seems pretty fun to me, but I'm a bit too shy of water to engage in diving 😉.
Wioletten, yes I thought the tent trailer seemed handy, for the right people. Glad you enjoyed the tour! 🙂
Lennart, yes, this fair was full of activities and ideas 😉.

Nice to have fairs of all kinds!
We like our motorhome the most 🙂

Rolle and Carina, fairs are fun! There will be both motorhome and travel fairs for our part 🙂 .
Alexandra, adventures can be in many different ways and different levels I think... I'm not interested in all kinds of adventures, but I can definitely get inspired at a fair like this! 🙂

Alexandra says:
Fun! Would have liked to go to the fair, but we were in the middle rehearsal yesterday and did not manage to fly away again today. ? Not because I am such an adventurous traveller really, but you can still be inspired hehe. When the daughter gets a little bigger, I probably take up diving again (I have a diving certificate) but now I think it's a bit boring to have to separate when you are on holiday, that's when you really have time to be together!

I have a memory of being at that fair a whole bunch of years ago. Think how many cool things there are to do! /Åsa

Marianne - Glimpses of the world says:
The Camp-let looks absolutely brilliant! This is what I would have wanted if I had a car!

BP says:
Have the feeling that you got as many ideas for new travel destinations at the fair, or...

Marie says:
How inspired you must have been by this fair! I sometimes see tent trailers here among the camping-mad New Zealanders. It looks really practical and with storage on the edge, it's a real hit. What were you most excited about after this fair?
14 March 2016 - 0:02
Mr Steve says:
Throwing a small Viking axe is probably the maximum I can manage in terms of adventure these days.
13 March 2016 - 23:05
Veiken says:
It sounds so nice, but it's in Stockholm. Bad luck for us! I get some invitations to different events, but 99.9% is in Stockholm, unfortunately!
Svalbard is currently at the top of the "order travel list" Let's see if it will be! 🙂

admin says:
Åsa, it was an inspiring fair ... but you realised that it will be difficult to get everything done, haha 😉.
BP, yes it is inspiring with tour operators who present slightly different options I think!
Steve, maybe it's time to get a little Viking axe for Getingstorp 😉.
Marianne, it seemed smart, for the right person!
Marie, great that you see these tent trailers in NZ! Just the storage is convenient, storing a caravan or motorhome can be expensive if you do not have a large plot of land. I think you were most inspired to travel to slightly different destinations: Greenland, Svalbard, Nepal, see more of Africa ...
Veiken, yes I can really understand that! Most of it seems to happen in Stockholm, and it's a bit strange that there isn't more in Gothenburg. The TUR fair used to be in Gothenburg, but now it has also moved to Stockholm ...

Inga Magnusson says:
We would have loved to visit this fair if it wasn't so far away. The small caravan looked fun, the one that can be developed so quickly. And I sometimes look at mini caravans, I think there is one called Kulan.

admin says:
Inga Magnusson, I understand that it is a bit far to travel, but otherwise it was a good fair! Interesting with "Kulan", I may have to google 😉.
