The luxurious Hotel Park in Split is located in central Dalmatia in Croatia on the Adriatic Sea. The hotel is located on Bacvice beach, within walking distance of the old town of Split. Featuring an outdoor terrace and fantastic rooms, this 5-star hotel is close to attractions such as Diocletian's Palace and Split Cathedral, as well as the Riva harbour promenade.
We had been warned of bad weather and it was a bit overcast, but 19 degrees in the air still feels great for a Swede! As soon as we arrived, a bus was waiting for us and a packed programme of meals, city tours and meetings with journalists from all over Europe...
Long day in Split
We flew from Stockholm to Split on Austrian Airlines with a stopover in Vienna. Both flights were relatively short, so the airline thought it was enough to have some snacks (a bun with strange jam and a minimal bag of aeroplane-shaped biscuits, respectively), but after two such flights including check-in and waiting times, one is quite exhausted. Fortunately, we got a nice reception here in Split!
Staff from the Croatian Tourist Office met us at the airport and drove us to Hotel Park in Split, where we immediately got both food and wine in the nice restaurant. Then there was an interesting guided tour of the historic parts of Split (more on that later!) and dinner at a restaurant in town.
European journalists and bloggers on site
So who's here? Well, a whole bunch of journalists and bloggers from all over Europe (and New York, I think), who have been nominated for the Golden Pen Award. We understand that the Croatian Tourist Office has local offices in some 15 countries, and all these countries have nominated journalists (from TV or newspapers) and/or bloggers who have done good reporting on Croatia over the past year.
A Swedish freelance journalist and her photographer are here, and we've also talked to journalists from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. We're feeling a bit fancy and think it's great company we're in.
Luxury Hotel Park in Split
We're used to staying in a motorhome and camping, so it's pretty easy to impress us, but we have to say we like this hotel. It's modern and fresh, located right next to the sea and within walking distance to the centre of Split. But above all, we like the room!
We have a single storey room with a living room and bathroom on level 1 and a bedroom and toilet on level 2. It's both cool and cosy and has everything you could wish for: super-fresh bathroom, coffee machine and fast WiFi. Now it's almost time for hotel breakfast and then we're off on new adventures. If it doesn't rain, the plan is to go to the island of Šolta and the Unesco city of Šolta. Trogir. And tonight it is time for the award ceremony ...

Have never heard of two-storey hotel rooms, but
it sounds very nice. Not exactly disabled-friendly, of course,
because there was no lift? 🙂
Great restaurant!

Steve, the excitement is rising here as well 🙂 !
Geddfish, thanks for telling us about the problems on the site! Apparently there were problems with the web host this morning ...
Across and across, thank you very much! It has rained a bit today but been interesting, and right now we are sitting in the sun and enjoying!
JoY, thank you so much! We will of course tell you more when we can!
BP, thanks for keeping your fingers crossed! There are several bloggers from different countries here, and we know very little about them or our chances, but just being here is fun! 🙂
Ruth in Virginia, you have a point about the disabled friendliness, but I don't think all the rooms are on two floors so hopefully they have other rooms that are more disabled friendly!
Anna, thank you so much! Yes, -83 was a few years ago, but the old parts of the city are probably the same 😉.
The campervan internship, yes, it can be nice to have a little luxury sometimes 🙂.
Henny, of course we take the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate this! It has been an interesting day (despite some rain) and now we are enjoying the sun outside the hotel!
