Yesterday we made the first trip with the motorhome, from Arboga to Stockholm, and the weather was as far from a lovely summer day as you can get. It snowed, hailed and rained in turns and was generally unpleasant. But the Swedish summer can be amazing! We plan to spend a lot of time in Sweden this summer and today we're featuring our favourite Swedish destinations.
Motorhome premiere and summer dreams
It was cosy to sit in the motorhome yesterday and it felt very homely. We actually lived in it for a whole year not so long ago. However, the weather was less cosy, so it's no wonder that you dream of summer!
This year we plan to spend a lot of time in Sweden this summer. We want to experience the summer in the houseboat, but we also have plans for larger and smaller trips in Sweden, including to Piteå in connection with the Nolia fair.
Our Sweden favourites
There are so many beautiful places in our country. We love Stockholm in the summer, and the Stockholm archipelago is also a favourite. We sometimes go to Blidö, for example, where Peter has relatives, and where he spent a lot of time growing up.
Other favourites are Halmstad and Tylösand (where I grew up) and Smögen and Öland. What are your summer favourites in Sweden?
Mr Steve says:
Interesting calculation model . But with Norrland at the top, I buy it straight away. I have spent many wonderful, memorable summers in Ångermanland and it is still close to my heart. Nowadays it's only Getingstorp that matters. That it became Getingstorp for us actually has to do with my love for Norrland as the nature in these areas reminds me of Norrland.

Interesting index!
We will be visiting Piteå on our long campervan trip, around the middle of June.
But, we will not be staying in a hotel then, but in the car of course 🙂 .

Oh, there are so many beautiful places in Sweden in the summer. Southern Öland and Blekinge, Österlen we like to go to.

As we love mountain nature, our travels often take us north to the mountains.
Our gem has been Borgafjäll, but now we have opened up to so many other beautiful places, and we love the mountains. Experience an incredible devotion up there that rolls the soul in cotton.
But right now we're feverishly exploring the map of Norway, trying to find gems and that's not difficult when it comes to Norway.

We like Roslagen ... and the High Coast is also nice if you want to stay along our long coast. Or the whole Baltic Sea coast by the way 🙂 Otherwise we like the inland with forests, mountains and lakes 🙂.
If I have to choose, it will probably be Roslagen...

I haven't holidayed in Sweden at all almost. At least not before we left the country 😉.
But I think that Stockholm and its surroundings - especially the archipelago - are absolutely fantastic! Then the west coast archipelago is not so bad either. We have had the privilege of kayaking around in it together with friends who live on Tjörn and have a boat 🙂.

Bosse and Gerd says:
There are so many gems along our long coasts when the temperature is at least 25 degrees in the shade - if not, it's at its best in the south of Europe or in the USA!

It doesn't surprise me that Piteå wins that game. It's also a funny calculation model.
Now, I have never been further north than Umeå during the summer (Nolia fair there too actually). The only thing I remember from there is that I was bitten by a mosquito and had to go to the emergency room. So, no.
A mosquito-free Gotland is ok, as is Skåne. It's not so bad in Vaxholm either, actually. Not to mention Öland.

Steve, great to hear that you like Norrland so much! I am originally from Skåne and have not been much in Norrland at all. We took the motorhome up in the summer of 2010, but it was very cold that summer 😉.
Lena & Jan, it sounds interesting with Jämtland. Hope you get there soon then!
Frank Olsen, we will of course follow your journey! In fact, we will also go to Piteå, but it will be in August, when the Nolia fair is held.
Åsa, I've only been to Gotland in the winter strangely enough (work) and it was nice then too, but I can imagine it's a bit different in the summer! 😉
Znogge, sounds wonderful!
Ann-Sofie and Lennart, yes there are of course many nice places and many you have not seen. We liked Öland! 🙂
Rantamor, you show so many fantastic pictures from up there on your blog so I have understood that it is beautiful! But a snowstorm right now sounds like that... 😉.
Anette, I visited Karlskrona once when I was 11 years old, maybe I'll visit again someday 😉.
Comsi Comsa, haha, yes I would love to joke back! 😉
Lennart, 😉
Anki, I agree that it is nice in Roslagen! I lived for a long time in Åkersberga so then you were around there sometimes 🙂.
Ama de casa, we also like both Stockholm and the west coast. And being out by boat is never wrong! 🙂
Bosse and Gerd, sometimes it is really nice even in Sweden, but there are not many weeks a year it is so hot... 😉 .
BP, emergency room... for a mosquito? It must have been a very bad mosquito!? And I agree that Vaxholm is very nice! 🙂

Carl, it sounds nice and like a place you might want to know about (?) but I don't ...

Helena has blogged about Stendörren.
http://ohdarling.org/stendorrens-naturreservat/
I can only agree with what she writes because I have a summer cottage nearby so Sörmland's archipelago is my summer paradise, but of other favourites it is clearly the following:
Gotland. Love both Visby which I just wrote about on Our Scandinavia and Fårö with its raukar and houses for the lambs....
Österlen. The beaches are like abroad even if the water temperature is not (Knäbäckshusen, Sandhammaren...), the hilly landscape is almost English (especially in spring) and the light is very special in the small fishing villages.
The high coast. Norwegian fjords meet Västervik...sort of. 😀
The Bjäre Peninsula with the slopes of Hallandsåsen, Hov's halls, bar hopping in Torekov and beaches on the south side.
Ven. Completely forgotten by non-Scots and Copenhageners.
Västervik. The town of my childhood, with its fish festival, beautiful town centre and more archipelago.
Frösön. Have never seen so many butterflies in one place and the view of Oviksfjällen... I have only been to Tällberg in the winter but it is probably very similar. Wonderful houses and SIljan.
I like Vaxholm and Utö.
In Bohuslän there are lots of them: Grundsund, Klädesholmen with its beautiful wooden details on the houses...
As a bubbler (I haven't written enough) I include Blekinge. Completely forgotten with all its greenery.

Oh Värmeland, you beautiful thing, I say. But really anywhere where there is water, summer meadows and the Nordic light. Sweden is special in the summer. The only time I have a real longing for it is in June.
