When we Swedes go on holiday, we like to post holiday photos on social media to show how good we have it - perhaps on Facebook, Instagram or our own blog. But how are these pictures actually received?
While many photos are certainly appreciated by our friends and family, as tips, inspiration or confirmation that those we care about are doing well, there are also some photos that can make others feel uncomfortable. A survey by online travel agency eBeach has found out which holiday photos are the most annoying ...
25% annoyed by holiday photos on social media
Are you one of those people who likes to post pictures from your trip abroad on social media? Then you should think twice before hitting the publish button next time. 25% of Swedes are bothered by other people's holiday photos on social media.
Here you can see which images top the annoyance list. The number in brackets indicates the percentage of people who consider this to be an annoying image. We've probably been guilty of a few... have you? Which holiday photos annoy you when you're scrolling through social media?
Most annoying holiday photos on social media - Top 10
- Selfies without any connection to the destination (25 %)
- Screenshot of the weather report for the destination (18 %)
- Bent legs in the sunbed in front of the pool (17 %)
- Couples kissing each other and taking the picture themselves (16 %)
- Feet sticking up in the sand (12 %)

- People posing with a local resident (8 %)
Alexandra says:
I have probably published both one and the other of these pictures, but I won't think twice about it next time either haha. You can not go and take into account all the easily irritated people all day long ?

Catherine says:
Haha guilty! But yes, it was a long time since I stopped with similar pictures almost completely so maybe not anymore. 🙂
06 April 2016 - 8:00
Anna, New York - My Bite of the Big Apple says:
Haha! Yes, there has been an inflation of these images. Another one that should have been on the list: wine or beer glasses with the sea in the background. 😉
06 April 2016 - 8:09
admin says:
Alexandra, haha, no, you are of course right! 😉
Katarina, no, I don't know if I usually see so many of these types of pictures on your blog...? 😉
Anna, yes, it really is also such a type of picture! (And I have probably also been "guilty" of such a picture ;))
06 April 2016 - 8:17
Mr Steve says:
Why should I be bothered by other people's holiday photos? A good option is to not look if there are any holidaymakers who are particularly 'annoying'.
It's probably good that I don't travel anymore if people are so sensitive.
06 April 2016 - 8:21
Hallin on the Resia blog says:
Ha ha, fun list and you're certainly guilty of some of them.
06 April 2016 - 8:27
Travel Friday says:
I confess! 🙂
06 April 2016 - 8:43
Travel Friday says:
(... meaning that I have both posted and been annoyed by such pictures.)
06 April 2016 - 8:44
Anja says:
Feeling most HAPPY ... and especially about your text for the exotic food picture from the Philippines :-))
06 April 2016 - 8:45
Åsa says:
It's typical that people make fun of everything! I'm annoyed by people who say they don't understand why people should post a lot about where they eat and where they are and what they do on Facebook. People who never post anything but just look around and get annoyed. Surely you have Facebook because you want to know where people are, what they do and what they eat?
Agree with the first one though! A mate was in Prague recently and posted lots of selfies, but you couldn't see any of Prague! Pretty funny!
06 April 2016 - 9:10
Anette says:
Yes, I have already posted some similar pictures. Best to be careful in the future, you don't want to annoy your friends.
06 April 2016 - 10:09
Marina says:
Haha! How lucky that the variant with drinking glasses with a bright blue sea in the background was not included, then I can continue to produce them at least 😉.
06 April 2016 - 10:15
JoY says:
Haha that you have made a list. I haven't thought so when I've seen holiday pictures.
However, if you don't zoom in on what you want to show, but just take a picture and write a text, you don't know what to see in the picture.
But if you're annoyed, just don't look.
Hugs
06 April 2016 - 10:17
Ditte says:
You can decide whether you want to see the pictures or not...
But I'm not annoyed, there are other things in this world that are more annoying than pictures. And since I don't have the "feeble book", there is less quantity that passes by.
06 April 2016 - 10:23
Renate's travels says:
I rarely post photos on Facebook (and there are many other things that annoy me on Facebook than people's holiday photos), but on the blog I'm guilty of many of the annoying points. :p But on the blog it's allowed, right? xD
06 April 2016 - 10:27
Jeanette says:
We have not travelled anything major, so I am not guilty of any of this 🙂 But I follow blogs where many people post holiday pictures and I do not mind what kind of pictures people choose to take and post. Food pictures are probably the best anyway, I think 🙂.
SV: I'm not going to cut back on wine. It has to be in moderation *haha*.
06 April 2016 - 11:06
Robin says:
After that list there wasn't much left, people are bothered by everything nowadays 😀.
06 April 2016 - 11:11
snort says:
After all, it's up to each of us and if you don't like a certain kind of picture, just don't read it. I'm not so fond of food pictures of a half-eaten dish that's just the right amount of sticky, but it's not that I'm annoyed.
06 April 2016 - 11:40
Goatfish says:
I like to post pictures of dishes, but it has to be before you eat them, it has to look nice, like your Filipino dish picture 😀.
Temperature pictures, or feet in the sand, aren't much fun, but I don't mind. It means people are feeling good, you know.
I show my freshly done nails every six weeks, I don't know, in case anyone gets annoyed 😉.

Aila says:
Of course you decide what you show... Scroll past if it doesn't fit.
If you have a blog, it may be a little different...
There may be other demands then...
But let people show what they want. We choose what we want to look at...
06 April 2016 - 12:57
Elisabeth says:
I post lots of pictures myself. You don't have to look at or read everything. It's a shame to spend energy and make fun of other people's pictures.
06 April 2016 - 13:22
Imelda says:
But, oh dear! Good thing you don't think so much about what people want to see. Pictures for me are usually spontaneous and taken when a certain feeling arises. I think that many people with me feel the same way, which is why mobile phone photos have become so big, I think. But what do I know....
06 April 2016 - 13:27
Cat's Considerations says:
Ha.ha... Yes. What do you write.... I have no ambition to post pictures that will be accepted or liked by everyone. I myself like travelling, pictures and social media so that alone probably bothers many people. ☺
06 April 2016 - 13:59
Annika says:
HAHA! Well...giggles.
I find weather screenshots a bit boring, even if the person is not on holiday. Admittedly, I'm a weather nerd, but I find it rather uninteresting.
Feet övh goes away for me who has foot phobia 🙂 But it also applies to everyone who has a penchant for such pictures even if they are not travelling.
Says like Imelda above, most pictures you post are taken because the feeling was so right JUST then. IF you have wifi at least 🙂 Otherwise it is so for me that I work more with a special picture and publish it when I have wifi. This mostly on Insta. On FB I can be a little more spontaneous.
Food pictures are also like that, not something I usually like övh.
It's fun to see people's pictures from holidays most of the time. Usually look at them with interest most of the time.

Steve, yes, the option not to watch is good, isn't it? Works especially well on blogs that you can choose to follow or not. Perhaps not as easy on FB, if you are easily irritated 😉.
Hallin, yes you are! I'm mostly guilty on the blog, not much on my private FB account...
Travel Friday, I don't know if I'm that annoyed, maybe mostly if people bombard the feed with pictures of the same thing... or put them in contexts where they don't belong....
Anja, great to hear that!
Åsa, haha you are fun! Yes, but it is clear that you want to know what people eat haha, especially if it is something exotic and different 😉 And yes, I can probably agree, I would like to glimpse some travel destinations behind the selfie 😉.
Anette, I'll probably think a bit too, but not too much 😉.
Marina, haha, keep going! 😉
JoY, that's an interesting point! It reminds me that we can get annoyed on Instagram when people show beautiful travel photos, but don't say where they were taken....
Ditte, it will probably be a lot less without FB! And on blogs it is easier to choose, you follow or you do not follow ...
Renate, I think there actually IS a difference in the blog. A blog you can choose to follow or not, very simple.
Jeanette, I usually don't mind either, but I do like to look at holiday pictures 🙂.
Robin, no haha, there will be no pictures at all in the end 😉.
Znogge, I have to agree that food pictures are more fun when the food is not eaten yet 😉.
Geddfish, I agree with you, temperature pictures and feet in the sand are not that exciting, but I don't get annoyed. Freshly done nails don't annoy me either, but I wouldn't follow a blog that showed it every day 😉.
Aila, yes, a blog is perhaps a little different. But if a blog often shows things that annoy you, you should probably stop following it ...
Yes, there should be more important things to be annoyed about in this world 😉 .
Imelda, yes, maybe it's lucky! I don't usually think that way either...!
Katta, I also post travel pictures all the time, and quite often pictures of some food, haha. But those who are annoyed may well stop following the blog... It's like you say, not everything can suit everyone...
06 April 2016 - 15:38
admin says:
Annika, it's really interesting to hear everyone's views on this! I don't think weather forecasts are that exciting either, and maybe not photo images either. However, I like food pictures! But it is an impossibility to constantly post pictures that suit everyone 😉.

Deciree says:
I probably feel most disturbed by all the food plates people put out all the time...I want to see the destination and what it looks like where the people are. But of course I have done the same myself at some point 😉 But I really try to think about putting out something other than my food plate:)
06 April 2016 - 17:15
Lennart says:
There will be some food pictures, though not so exotic.
06 April 2016 - 17:26
BP says:
Hahaha! I've never thought of that... Okay then, I only use the blog so...?
Selfies annoy me in all contexts, not just as holiday photos. Oh kiss-kiss photos that you take yourself - sigh! But everything else doesn't bother me at all, rather the opposite. Especially food pictures are really fun to check, as the food abroad is an inspiration, I think.
06 April 2016 - 17:34
Camilla says:
Interesting theme! The thing is also that you like to update when you feel happiest. But others do not get the same "feelis" when they see the picture... Happiness does not follow so to speak... 🙂
06 April 2016 - 17:37
year says:
To be honest, I can't spend my energy annoying myself with pictures. I read a blog because it is interesting and fun to read. The pictures can be as they are. I read this blog mainly because you write well. Of course, the occasional picture is also good, but I don't care. It's the whole thing that keeps me reading day after day.
06 April 2016 - 18:41
Across the board says:
As the saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words."
Presumably, the terrible (whoever decides what is terrible) picture ends up on social media just because it was fun/fun at the time and is published without much thought. Personally, I don't care so much and just scroll past if it doesn't arouse my interest.
06 April 2016 - 19:51
Matts Torebring says:
I think you are very good at limiting the number of images in each post. If there are 40-50 images in a post, it can get a bit tiring. Otherwise, nothing really bothers me.
06 April 2016 - 20:28
Linda says:
Haha but no, but feet in the sun!!! Or a cold drink type. You want to see the surroundings and not any of this *S*.
Answer: Oh, what a shame. But Italy itself is really fantastic. When we drove through Italy then we really discovered our favourite places! See my travel category, there is a youtube video posted there;) Scroll back a bit;)

Deciree, it is so interesting that many people think differently! I myself like food pictures, although I can agree with some previous writers that it is more fun if the picture is taken before you have eaten half the meal, haha.
Lennart, I like food pictures, so it doesn't bother me at all, on the contrary. But from the discussion here, I have realised that opinions on food pictures differ!
BP, it has been interesting to see that the opinions on food pictures are so different! I myself think it's fun with food pictures, but it has to be reasonably good-looking pictures, and so it's perhaps most fun if it's something a little different, or creatively laid out or something like that 🙂 .
Camilla, you described it well there, I think. Pictures can sometimes spread a certain amount of joy iofs, but maybe it depends on how you know the person in the picture and so on....
Annar, I was so happy when I read your comment! I blog primarily because I enjoy writing, and having a conversation with readers. I think pictures are important too, but I started blogging because I wanted to write, not because I wanted to show pictures 😉.
Across the board, I do as you do. Things that are uninteresting on FB you simply have to scroll past ...
Matts, thank you for your feedback! Like you, I think it's hard when there are too many photos.
Linda, there are a lot of nice things to see and experience in Italy! Our favourite in the country is probably Sardinia, but it is also nice around Verona and at Lake Garda for example. I will check out your travel category!

How fun to blog and read other people's travels!
Nothing to worry about, just scroll past 🙂 .
06 April 2016 - 21:22
Ulrika says:
Haha is probably guilty of several such pictures but even though I posted them myself, I think it is disturbing with a picture of a foot by the sea or pool. Why not just a view or be in the picture yourself 🙂 .

Comsi Comsa says:
I don't mind at all, everyone can post what they want as long as it's with a bit of class... hi hi hi...

Ruth in Virginia says:
Nothing in general, but have to say I don't understand,
why people photograph their feet - in sand or water.
Wine glasses in the sun at dusk .....Meh!
So-called picture bombs. Too much to digest in one sitting.
You always get it right when it comes to images. True Swede! 🙂

I think that people who are too annoyed can take better responsibility for their inner life. If you feel good, you simply annoy yourself less. 🙂

anita wag agrimanaki says:
But... I think it means that people are annoyed by holiday pictures at all because when I think about it, these are exactly the kind of pictures I see in my feed from those who are on holiday. (not travel bloggers but others who are on holiday) I think they are standard photos from holidays and that means that people are annoyed by most things. No need to be annoyed, I think.
07 April 2016 - 6:00
admin says:
Rolle and Carina, we also like to read about travelling! Says like you, it is just to scroll past things you do not like ...
Ulrika, I also don't think that a foot adds so much to a picture actually, and so it has perhaps become a bit inflationary. But it's not that I sit and get particularly annoyed ...
Comsi Comsa, a bit of class can lift any image, haha 😉.
Ruth in Virginia, it's interesting that you write about picture bombs. I also find it hard to post with lots of pictures. It becomes too much, and in the end you just scroll past... And being a "True Swede" can be good sometimes 😉.
Marie, I think you have a point there! Right, if you feel good, you can't get too excited, haha.
Anita, I think I can agree that these types of pictures are seen more on FB than on blogs. But that people are annoyed feels a bit unnecessary. You can simply scroll past if you are not amused 😉.

It has become a bit of a thing to take real pictures, just for fun? I think it's fun. Feel like the hotel staff is really making an effort with the towel animals now.

Haha... I have only been guilty of two types of pictures. I have heard that the picture you take on the aeroplane wing also causes irritation!

Steel City Anna, yes, that's one way of looking at it! And yes, they do make an effort with the towel animals! 😉
Marit, really? Yes, it can certainly also be such a picture! Many pictures to watch out for in other words, haha 😉 😉
08 April 2016 - 20:07
Maria says:
Oh, just jealousy I guess... 😉 I don't get annoyed by anything in particular when it comes to holiday pictures. I'm generally not so easily annoyed by me when it comes to social media pictures 😉.
08 April 2016 - 22:06
Ullrika says:
I can get mad at what people post on Instagram and the feijan, but now that I think about it, I think it depends more on the person than on the picture they share 😉 and then I can happily put up with a feet-on-the-beach picture and a food picture if it's just some varied soup being shared!
Fun to read everyone's comments above. I really wish I was one of those who doesn't care...!

Yes, what would be pictures without someone teasing?! people tease everything so it is a choice you make who you follow, ha ha I continue to take pictures as I want in the first place like it or not 🙂 wonderful pictures you show o nice Saturday 🙂

Birgitta in Umeå says:
I must have missed all these pictures on my FB. Well, not a freshly taken plate at the tavern, which is just so beautiful!
It's a good thing flower pictures weren't on the list, because I would have freaked out.
Dawn and sunrises, especially over the sea, were also not on the list.
09 April 2016 - 14:06
admin says:
Maria, yes, many times (but perhaps not exclusively) it can be about jealousy, I think so too.
Ullrika, interesting thought that it depends on who is posting a certain thing, but I think you have a point there. And yes I agree, it has been incredibly fun and interesting to read the comments here! 🙂
Eva, yes, but that's how it is! If you are annoyed by someone's feed, you can actually stop following (on FB you can still be friends, but just stop following the feed).
Birgitta in Umeå, haha yes it was lucky that flowers and sunsets were not included! In the end, there are no pictures left that you are "allowed" to post 😉.

Motorhome Helge says:
What a hiccup we got when we saw No. 5. Feet in the sand. But we took the picture as proof that we were in Dune de Pilat. Bad proof photo when we think about it, could have been taken anywhere. In any case, this shows that people see things differently.
Enjoy!
10 April 2016 - 11:02

The motorhome Helge, haha, yes about what we got when we saw "text written in the sand" then 😉 You have to choose whether to care or not and Dune du Pilate is after all a cool experience! 🙂
