When you live in a marina, of course you have bird life. It doesn't matter that it takes 7 minutes to walk to the metro and even faster to walk over to Kungsholmen. But the birds do get used to city life ...
Swans
Swans tend to be a bit reserved, that's my experience. They often swim past, both outside and inside the marina, but they tend to stay on the edge. Except for this latest one. He swam up to our entrance and really wanted our attention (or food perhaps?). Well, he didn't get any food, but he will be a celebrity on a travel blog instead. Not too bad, right?
At the same time, we'd like to show you two other pictures from when a whole family of swans came to visit. They are so beautiful, both the parents and the chicks, aren't they?
amendments
The ducks are usually quite forward, and if it were up to them, they would gladly follow me into the kitchen. (They don't even get intimidated when I tell them I know how to make duck stew.) Last Sunday we had a beer with some friends at the Sjökrogen here in the Pampas marina, and they also took the opportunity to strut around between the tables and check for leftover food. They didn't even worry about the two dogs that were also hanging out in the lounge ...
Then there are other birds that are much larger, and perhaps a little more artificial, so to speak. Like this one the duck boat for example, who have been visiting us in the last few days. I think it contains a sauna ... What kind of bird life do you have where you live?
Mr Steve says:
Many birds are nice to have as 'mates', but at the table I still want to be left alone.
I have a particularly rich bird life outside my window, which I open every morning to listen, as I am doing now, to the wonderfully multifaceted birdsong. It's a nice start to the day.

Ama de casa says:
I think they are nice, the mallards 🙂 .
In our immediate vicinity, we have Putte, the grey sparrow, who at this time of year sits on the terrace. Anders is and chases him away at regular intervals when he becomes too annoying. Then we have the howling spoonbill on the roof opposite 🙂.
The kittiwakes have arrived for the season, and the gulls also fly by from time to time.
Not very exciting bird life, then 🙂 ...

Goatfish says:
Where I live I see and hear no bird life at all, then I get out and walk to see the seabirds at Lake Vänern 😀.
But I have memories of caravan life. There we could wake up to cranes, to the cuckoo, the nightingale.
And in Taizé, I enjoyed the bird life immensely. The nightingales were just crazy. Wonderful! 😀
On my balcony I have Imse Vimse Spindel instead, which protects against flies 😉.

Åsa says:
The little one that fell into the fireplace, which we fed on the balcony, has flown away. No new ones have fallen down, but there is a lot of noise up there, right next to our bedroom, which I wake up to every morning as soon as it gets light.

Haha so funny that you threaten them 🙂

The blackbird is a favourite!
We have had blackbirds outside the motorhome all year!

No how cozy it looks 🙂 It must be nice to live on the water and be surrounded by bird life.

Veiken says:
Ducks definitely belong in places where there are watercourses. Here we have magpies, besides me of course, jackdaws and a crow. A robin and some other small birds! I think that the blue tits will disappoint this year - unfortunately! It has been so cosy when the little ones go out and fly for the first time! 🙂

Biggeros says:
We have many birds hanging on our "El breso" fence. They look like grey sparrows. Then we hear the neighbour's caged birds chirping all the time or is it the neighbour himself... Ducks move everywhere and the fact that they are less afraid may be because we humans let them get close to us. Since we also feed them with most things.

Steve, wonderful with birdsong! I have that in the "forest" when I go up to the subway. Agree that you want to eat in peace, but luckily the ducks gave up pretty quickly 😉 .
Ama de casa, impressive stubbornness that he doesn't give up on Putte, despite being chased away. A lot of people could use that kind of stubbornness 😉.
Geddfish, isn't it wonderful when you experience such bird life! It seems to have been very nice in Taize!
Åsa, effective alarm clock perhaps? 😉
Jeanette, it's not that effective though... 😉.
Lennart, blackbirds are beautiful 🙂
Ontripdk, we love to live on the water and have the birds around us as we have 🙂 !
Veiken, yes this is a perfect place for the ducks! Sad that the blue tits "disappoint", it sounds cosy with the kids! 😉
Biggeros, it sounds like you have a rich bird life! Nice!

Birds are nice if they are not pigeons 😉 .

BP says:
I think you should show the blog to the swan, maybe he'll bring his mates. That duck is really tame and I like him. Better a duck than a pigeon or seagull, although I also prefer to eat without the company of birds.
The Duck Sauna is so much fun. I have never seen such a building before. Superbly built, I must say.
This year we have lots of different birds in the courtyard and in the forest opposite. Oh they start their show around 02:00 I can say. I have no idea what the varieties are.

JoY says:
I have respect for ducks, swans and Canada geese, they can pinch you if you are not careful. At home in the garden we have various small birds that come and bathe. The blackbird is nice and then the birch thrush that clears the cherry tree lightning fast.
Hugs

Matts Torebring says:
As you say, they come into the house without hesitation. Then they do their business wherever they are. Best not to feed them. In Värnamo at the southern Swedish crossroads, there used to be a rest area. Three hamburger restaurants remain. At the former rest area, guests of the restaurants sat and ate. They left behind half-eaten portions for magpies and crows to feast on. The birds could hardly walk, their legs pointed to the side, they were so fat and round. Perhaps that is why the resting place was removed.

Ditte says:
I am moderately amused by the seabirds in the city and absolutely do not want them in restaurants, even by the water. In the city centre, some seabirds have been shot because they became a true nuisance and carried disease. At Tanto, ducks, swans and Canada geese have attacked bathers on land, which is not ideal...
But if I see seabirds in their proper environment, I have no problem with them.
Even seagulls and gulls have been known to attack people on the city's quays and they get angry when they don't get food.
Wish people would stop feeding all the birds...
They do very well on their own.
I like the duck sauna! Have seen it. A good alternative to the other ducks.

Marianne - Glimpses of the world says:
I have a relatively large, newly created pond just below where I live, so I have a view of it from my balcony. Three swans and a bunch of ducks have now moved in, including a mother with nine ducklings and another mother with eight ducklings. Now they are getting big, but the first time I saw them they were just a few tiny little ducklings paddling frantically with their little feet. Yesterday I stood and watched both families waddle ashore, take their evening meal and go to sleep in two piles right next to each other. How marvellous!

Criss-cross, haha, you really don't like pigeons, I hear 😉.
BP, I don't usually know what "types" of birds are either... I know swan and duck, but small birds... it has never really sunk in 😉 .
JoY, I've also always heard that swans can be aggressive and speak up, so I usually just leave them alone. But this one was unusually interested in a "meeting" 😉 .
Ditte, I like the sound of seabirds and have nothing against them in general, but what you described... no, not fun! As you say, people must stop feeding them. But then they find food scraps themselves too...
Marianne, so nice when they have kids! 🙂
